Yet another attempt to balkanize and de-Americanize the place ...make everyone concentrate on their differences, where they “came from,” not where they ARE, or where they should have loyalty to.
Divide and conquer. More of the same old same old.
My ancestors came from a piss poor little town in Germany. I’ve been there to see it. It’s nothing special. I’m DAMN glad those hard headed Germans decided to leave that drab place and relocate to upper state NY so my family could stand a chance and flourish here. It’s nice to know where they came from, but it’s even MORE important to know WHY they left.
As for the Irish side, well, starving, poor and weak is no way to go through life. Wouldn’t you relocate if all you had to eat were rotten, diseased potatoes?
Anybody that doesn't like it can kiss my ass.

And to add, grandma always told the story of the German side who demanded that the kids and everyone in the family learn English, once they arrived in the late 1880’s. They had declared that they were now Americans and that was it ...it was considered SHAMEFUL to speak the language of the old country.
I’m sure many families could recount a similar story.
I think we need to consider — WHO is coming here and what is their character?
