...

It's been a long time since producing all your own oil actually made you independent. We spent 40 years transforming global markets so they were integrated and flexible, to give us protection from the vagaries of global oil production, and one of the side effects is we're now part of that, even if we produce all our own oil. ...

I don't know who you think are the great conservative economists of all time, but I hope you aren't refering to the laughable austrian school.

I'm pointing to what America's founding fathers did. And they had import tariffs. I'll take founding fathers vs great economists any day of the week.

Danny believes in his little centrally planned America.
But glad to know you spit in the face of REagan, Sowell, and Friedman.

Your ignorance of the Founders and tariffs is astonishing. You’ve bought the bullshit lie and don’t even know the reasons for it.

This “selling your country out” bullshit is just abominable. You are a pathetic little worm weasel of a cretan. I have only pointed to your ignorance, but neverr your motives. I actually think you want what is best for the country, just wrong about what that is.

Unfortunately, when the worm turns and the county goes full on commie, which is what free trade will ultimately cause, they intern the useful glo-bull-ist idiots like you first.

Like I said Karl Marx was a Free Trader, just like YOU.

Here's a link that has the founding fathers in their own words commenting on the tariffs. I bet it's different than what you learned from the CATO institute.

Karl Marx probably like chocolate, too. That doesn’t make chocolate bad.

Free trade, that is actually free trade, is fine.

What is not OK is lop-sided free-on-one-side trade.

So being pro America first makes someone a communist, but being fro free and abusive trade with a Communist Empire makes you a patriot? Strange world you live in. Get help, go to rehab.

So, you go quote a blogger? And besides, I know some of the Founders were in favor of tariffs,at times, for very narrow reasons - but only because we had an infant country. And only because we had no other oppressive taxation at the time. To compare those conditions to today is just fkn ignorant.

The world is different today, and there’s not a damned thing you can do to undo the internet, undo world travel, undo satellites, undo communications and ecommerce and undo some aspects of globalization. Today we are not an “infant” country with “infant” industries and today, high tariffs would be oppressive taxation.

A case can be made that the Founders, were they here today, would not favor the tariffs because the very conditions they favored them for are no longer reality. Besides, far superior economists to them have come and gone and spoken to this issue.
