At a business level, the penalty for not offering a qualified healthcare plan is $2,000 per person, for companies that have more than 30 full-time employees.

I thought it was 50 employees. Anybody know if it is 30 or 50 - huge difference.

It was 50. Perhaps it changed?

It’s 50 employees. 30 is the threshold number of hours when an employee is to be considered to be “full-time.”

It's 50 FTE's or equivalents to be subject to the law. I'm assuming the 30 he is referencing is that you get to not count your first 30 FTE's for the purpose of the tax. Your $2K penalty is on everybody less the first 30.

Don't ask me why they picked 30, they just give you the first 30 no penalty.
