Anti-Muslim sentiment has boiled over repeatedly since the ‘969’ campaign first emerged several months ago. In late March, rioters went on a three-day rampage in the central town of Meikhtila, burning down Muslims’ homes, businesses, and mosques. About 40 people were killed.

It's impossible that this is the full story. I'd have to bet that the part about the Muslims making the first move has been deliberately left out, not that it started when somebody poured himself a nice cup of tea, stared at a wall for a couple of hours, and decided it was time to rampage against Muslims via this "969 campaign".

The violence in the southermost region has been constant and one sided for a long time. Many Buddhists, including numerous schoolchildren have died from Jihad.
