DHS Denies Ammo Purchases Aimed at Civilians
Washington Whispers ^ | April 25, 2013 | Elizabeth Flock

Officials at the Department of Homeland Security denied Thursday that its large-scale ammunition purchases were an effort keep bullets out of the hands of private citizens.

(read this)

At a hearing on Capitol Hill Thursday, top DHS training officer Humberto Medina said he could "say categorically that was not a factor at all" in the purchases. He also noted that ammunition DHS purchased would be used for both operations and training purchases.

The ( Associated Press reported) in February that DHS was planning to buy more than 1.6 billion rounds over the next five years, a number that sparked fears of government stockpiling – which DHS previously denied to Whispers. Officials told lawmakers DHS actually was planning to buy only up to 750 million rounds.

But Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., said it still looked like the government was unnecessarily amassing ammunition.

"The idea that you have to have excess rounds, year after year, flies in the face of common sense," Issa said. Medina argued that DHS keeps a reserve of ammunition because of market fluctuations and because of past problems with vendors.

In fiscal year 2012, DHS purchased more than 103 million rounds of ammunition, to be used by about 70,000 DHS officers who are currently authorized to use weapons. Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, said Thursday that "the math" didn't make sense, pointing out that this means an average 1300-1600 rounds per DHS officer – some 1000 rounds more than the average for an officer in the Army.

DHS agents and officers need extensive training because they are "exposed to a variety of situations" and "only have that weapon to protect their lives," Medina said. "They can't contact air support [like an officer in an army could.] They have to be proficient at a very high level."

The entire Obama administration lies about the time of day. I wouldn’t trust their statements on anything.

It might not really be too unbelievable. Everything that I've seen that mentions anything other that the number of “rounds” says that DHS is buying all 40 cal. ammo. I can't see where they'd be interrupting the 22lr, .380, .32 supply line and stuff like that. I have seen nothing about DHS ordering any 5.56 although I have seen where they ordered a bunch of AR and M4 rifles.
And, after the display of marksmanship the government shooters put on last week with the Boston Bomber gunfight-what was it 12 hits out of 200 rounds fired-it’s not unbelievable that they really are using the stuff for target practice.

They are for future rat hunts! The Rats are taking over this country and other methods of rodent control do not appear to be keeping the population in check.

National Socialist German Workers party circa 1930’s, “We aren’t planning on invading anyone!”
Not too long later: “Surprise! We lied! Hi France, would you wear this maid outfit for us please?”

DHS and Napolitano, “We aren’t planning on going after American citizens, honest!”

If and when the White House changes parties a lot of this ammo is liable to end up on the U.S. retail market as surplus.

RE: your misfires on .22 rounds... I am seeing that occur occasionally with my BSA Rifle Shooting MB training. We shoot single shot bolt action rifles. Trigger pull / ‘click’/ count to ‘30’ / extract / confirm firing pin strike / rotate cartridge 90 degrees and reload - fires..... What is happening is in the manufacturing process. The primer media is not getting distributed evenly in the rim and you have a void. The round is only ‘slightly defective’. If, after a second or third ‘misfire’. Destroy the cartridge.

One of the issues with DHS is that it HAS to have an enemy to exist. If there is no enemy then it would be shut down.

If all of the world’s terrorists died tomorrow whomever is next on the list would just move up and be their new, top enemy.

Currently - that’s white American christians. (Some may say it already is)

The real issue is that DHS has to be dissolved. A failed experiment. A dangerous idea. 5 bombers under Obama in the US already and the DHS is still clueless.

Shut it down.

Looking at the sheer number of rounds fired at that one unarmed terrorist without one kill shot makes me realize that they need all of the ammo they can get. They really suck so bad.

The good news? We have nothing to fear from these clowns if a real civil war began.

A misfire always bugs me. Even if I can’t get it to fire on the 2nd or 3rd try I still treat it like a themo-nuclear bomb.

“The results of this ‘training’ need crap are doing what they intended. Slow the ammunition flow to the public, but the unintended result is that detective had to go a long way to get his three boxes of ammo.”

Nonsense. The government’s purchases are a drop in the bucket. The real cause of the shortage is exactly what you saw yesterday, private citizens lining up to buy up the entire stock of a store as soon as it comes in. As long as there is panic buying and stockpiling by the public, the shortage will continue, because that is what is driving it.

DHS does not need more ammo/agent than USA military; Period. They are deliberately attempting to hoard the available ammo supply so that 'We The People' _and_ USA military cannot counter their _homeland_ activities.

I had 3 misfires on the same cartridge. Yes, firing pin was striking. I did rotate it to get a strike in a different spot. This was with a Ruger 10/22 using Winchester Wildcat ammo. After that I gave up on it.

Public demand DUE to not believing DHS is telling the truth, especially in the face of known (coming) difficulties with a federal budget. It wasn’t for training.

Even if the irrational consumer behavior is based on a rational fear, the behavior itself is still irrational, and it’s still what is causing the shortage.

Just why the hell do we even need a DHS police force for?

This is nothing but a domestic paramilitary force in the mold of the SS. This is insane.
