Behold the coming apocalypse as predicted on and around Earth Day, 1970:
"Civilization will end within 15 or 30 years unless immediate action is taken against problems facing mankind." Harvard biologist George Wald
"We are in an environmental crisis which threatens the survival of this nation, and of the world as a suitable place of human habitation." Washington University biologist Barry Commoner
"Man must stop pollution and conserve his resources, not merely to enhance existence but to save the race from intolerable deterioration and possible extinction." New York Times editorial
"Population will inevitably and completely outstrip whatever small increases in food supplies we make. The death rate will increase until at least 100-200 million people per year will be starving to death during the next ten years." Stanford University biologist Paul Ehrlich
"Demographers agree almost unanimously on the following grim timetable: by 1975 widespread famines will begin in India; these will spread by 1990 to include all of India, Pakistan, China and the Near East, Africa. By the year 2000, or conceivably sooner, South and Central America will exist under famine conditions . By the year 2000, thirty years from now, the entire world, with the exception of Western Europe, North America, and Australia, will be in famine." North Texas State University professor Peter Gunter
"In a decade, urban dwellers will have to wear gas masks to survive air pollution by 1985 air pollution will have reduced the amount of sunlight reaching earth by one half." Life magazine
"At the present rate of nitrogen buildup, it's only a matter of time before light will be filtered out of the atmosphere and none of our land will be usable." Ecologist Kenneth Watt

Global Warming on Free Republic
Mega dittos!
Is it naughty of me to read this and be a little bit disappointed that it didn't come true?
Talk about heralding a new age of peace and a global renaissance made up of who's left. Sheesh.
Why would there be anybody at the pump if there was no gas to be pumped? Yet, this passes for liberal "thought".
I’m sure these guys were ‘experts’.
ping earth day 1970
Yes, depressing but it was designed to touch the soul, so to speak. I’ve never seen a sadder ending....
“(1945) Nothing will grow in Hiroshima and Nagasaki for the next ninety seven years!”
The spring of 1946 had flower and trees begin to put forth green shoots.
I PREDICT......
We will be heavily taxed before being allowed to be buried in the earth (people are polution).
We will have to pay a recycle fee while alive to handle our remains at a future death.
We will have to pay a fee to exhume dead relatives remains that contaminate the Earth, and the land will be confiscated by government.
Homes will have to be painted in earth tones or green to blend in with the environment; otherwise be fined.
We will be restricted to no more than two motor vehicles per household; otherwise be heavily fined.
And so on...
My point being, it’s all about money and taxes. The environment being secondary.
Summarizing - if we don;’t go commie, we’re doomed.
Doomed!
Rush Limbaugh’s Algore Armageddon Clock is now at less than 3 years. Rush started it back in 2006 after Gore said we only had 10 years to act before global warming would be irreversible in its path to destroying the earth. The Earth Day kooks preceded Gore by 30 years.
If you went to public school she has been retired on 80 % of her income for the last thirty years since she turned 55 and laughing all the way to the bank with free medical, COLA increases and a perpetual feeling of entitlement.
Al Gwhore is trying to make it happen in 9 years, burns more electricity in his mansions than a couple dozen households, flies everywhere on jets for no practical reason, etc. doesn't practice what he preaches we are supposed to do. A brother-in-law made a bet with me in 2009 that in five years all cars would be electric, to save us from pollution and global warming. Al Gwhore got to him. Next year I'll collect on the $100 bet.
Yeah, that == plus the fact that this all-seeing, all knowing futurist failed to foresee Self-Serve.

what is really hilarious, is none of these characters think they were wrong.
