Two men told police they were experimenting with making explosives after watching a how-to on YouTube when their attempt exploded on a Bayonne fire escape yesterday afternoon, WPIX reported last night. Christopher Ziobro, 21, and Ghaias Mirza, 18, were being questioned in the 33rd Street incident in which no one was injured, the television report said.
A man who lives in the apartment directly below told the station there were two loud blasts and milk containers were involved.

A person can also get considerable innocent amusement out of filling balloons with oxyacetylene mixture from a welding torch (unlit), then putting the balloons in a paper bag and lighting the bag. Lots of noise, but no shrapnel aside from fragments of paper and rubber.

We had a kid walking down the street out front once when a very loud 12 gauge shotgun boom went off.
I called the cops ~ they came ~ caught the kid and said 'not to worry, just m-4s' ~ that's worth about 1/4 stick of dynamite.
They took him to jail!
Years later one of his little buddies, now a convicted interstate auto thief, said 'oh, yeah, I remember that ~ stuck the shotgun in the backseat of my dad's car ~ big shotgun ~ then showed the cops the firecracker'

2 liter dry ice bombs sound like dynamite. I sank one in a 30 lb tub of water (to muffle sound) and it blew the tub apart.
