"Morning Joe" host Joe Scarborough reamed into Senate Republicans and four Democrats who voted against the passage of a bill expanding background checks.
Particularly targeting Republicans, Scarborough said that the party was "moving toward extinction."
"You do not ignore 90 percent of the American people on an issue of public safety," Scarborough said, citing poll numbers that consistently showed nine in 10 respondents supporting the measure.
"Mark it down this is going to be a turning point in the history of the Republican Party as well," he added. "And let those out there chattering, let them chatter away all they want to and scream like hyenas. Let them do what they want to do.
"This party that killed this background check yesterday this party is moving toward extinction. A new Republican Party is going to replace it. And this is going to be a vote that people are going to look back on and say, 'That party that extremism that was unsustainable."
On Wednesday afternoon, the Senate failed to garner the 60 votes necessary to pass the measure. It drew an especially angry reaction from President Barack Obama, who made new gun legislation a key legislative goal of the start of his second term.

Just read an article in the Marine Times that came out a couple of weeks ago. It was a pole among Marines that found traditional support for the Republican party falling while at the same time the Marine Corps was becoming overall more conservative. This is a microcosm for society at large. So yes Joe you are correct. The Republican party is becoming extinct. But for the wrong reasons you are stating. This vote yesterday will strengthen the Republican party.
Okay, Joe, whatever. The bill is dead and Obama has entered lame-duck territory. Deal with it.
He’s no Republican; not even a RINO in his views. Just a liar on the set.
I coulda been a senator.
Start enforcing the laws on the books. Can Joe tell us how this law would do anything to prevent criminals from getting guns? I think I hear the crickets.
“This party is moving toward extinction.”
Hey Joe. That’s projection.
Exactly, instead of doing things proven to improve the job outlook, this administration instead does things proven to injure, destroy and damage jobs.
All while shouting, “I’m helping!”
90% of what vote?
The numbers on gun and ammo sales tell a different story Joe. Why don’t you look at those numbers.
This was fun to watch, I DVERed it and saw it live.
Morning Joe also previously predicted that this bill was going to pass, so when Dems lose Senate seats next year he wont be talking about this.
He also said the ‘new GOP’ will embrace gun control.
Mark Halprin said on show “Its a complex issue ‘ and so Joe jumped all over him like he was the NRA.
Along with the rest of our foolish, God-forsaken nation, I'm afraid.
He and MSNBC have upped the rhetoric, may be related to Comcast recently buying out the rest of GE ..now full owned by comcast.
Joe, if you want ratings, the last guy you want to steal crazy from is Chris Matthews.
I know of at least one dead intern who might have benefited from a gun, when she "fell over and hit her head" on your desk.
With that support, the bill would have bipartisan support and passed overwhelmingly.
The Senators voted the the way their constituents demanded.
If they had said, "Do you support creating a national gun registry and subpoena of all your most confidential medical records against your will?" they would have gotten a very different number.

What a sap.
Who is Joe Scarborough? Some TV news guy? If so, who cares.
Question: How many congressmen does it take to bash his mistress/intern's head against a desk until she's dead?
Answer: None. She fell.
Zero is such a true believer tht he can’t even see the fact that Americans don’t want gun increased gun registration with an eventual national databank of all gun owners. He overplayed he hand and he will get nothing now.
