Charles Schumer: Gun-control deal means NY could be 'swamped' by out-of-staters with concealed arms

New York would be forced to honor concealed-weapons permits from the other 49 states under proposals advanced in the Senate by allies of the National Rifle Association as part of a broader gun control deal, Sen. Charles Schumer warned Sunday.

In a release issued Sunday, Schumer (D-N.Y.) said New York, which requires stringent screenings of concealed-carry applicants, could be "swamped by armed individuals from out of state carrying hidden and loaded firearms."

But Rockland County Legis. Frank Sparaco (R-Valley Cottage), a critic of parts of New York's SAFE Act gun control law, applauded the reciprocal carry proposal as a "wonderful idea" akin to the agreement under which licenses let motorists drive in any state. He maintained that the right to bear arms is protected absolutely under the Second Amendment.

I am NOT in favor of accepting Universal Background checks (or anything else, for that matter) simply because I could carry CCW in NY State because I have a Georgia CCW.

We really need to know all the details. If the Coburn amendment is included, I might accept it. The Coburn amendment destroys the anti-freedom types scheme for gun registration. It sets back their clock at least 20, if not 50 years.

I could also accept amendments that would call for destruction of 4473s after a year, on the grounds that "old" gun traces are worthless (virtually all gun traces are worthless).

The details are very important.

The other side is that working out all the details consumes time, and moves us more toward rationality instead of emotion. That works for us, and makes getting other legislation that President Obama wants harder. More time is our friend.

Legislation should be deliberate, not rushed.

I don’t see the problem with armed tourists coming to make NY safer. Someone needs to.

The guy who ambushed firemen in NY state on Christmas couldn’t have passed a background check after doing time in prison for beating his grandmother to death with a hammer.

Some of the high profile shootings in recent years have been committed by people who did pass background checks or were otherwise “allowed” by the state.

The simple fact is that background checks and restrictions are an exercise in futility and another waste of money. The only real deterrent is a population able to defend themselves.

Why the big deal about background checks. DOJ doesn’t prosecute but a small number of the felons who fail the check anyway.

Besides, there are background checks at gun shows. All FFL dealers have to do them. It’s just the private sellers that do not, and do not have to. Libtards try to make it sound like there are no checks.

If they RECORD anything during a background check it WILL be entered into a data base. YOu can count on that because you can’t trust the ATF, the FBI, any Blue State, nor the entirety of any Executive Branch controlled Agency, not one of them for anything they say. They are liars and law breakers. They are already violating Federal Law by asking dealers for copies of their 4473s and shuffling that off somewhere to a contractor who is amassing and structuring the final data base. Do not trust anything they say or legislate.

But it is O.K. if NY is “swamped” by illegal aliens who have driver’s licenses and speed along in a 4000 lb killing machine!

I still don’t understand what “equal protection” means when it apples to driver’s licenses and marriage licenses and not to CCW licenses. There is a push by homosexuals for state wide recognition of same sex licenses backed by nearly all democrats but not CCW’s. Oh, the hypocracy!

Correct, if they sufficed already to solve the specious “gun violence” problem now, then it would have stopped NewTown, wouldn’t it?

Filling out these forms universally is just a means to come back, say after 2014 after we might lose the House, and demand a registry - a repository of all the guns bought.

That is just Confiscation unexecuted, and I will not comply. I’ll disperse everything I have before that.

48 states, Illinois doesn't have concealed carry.

The background check bill is a pile of crap and needs to die in the senate without a vote, but the thought of Bloomie having to accept concealed carry of guns in NYC makes me smile.

I'll bet that commie bastard would tip over dead from a stroke if that ever happened.

Some states will grant CCW to non-residents (i.e Florida). Motivated New York residents could skirt New York state and NYC permitting and get the FL permit. If Schumer figures this out his panties will really be in a wad.

Does anybody think this "reciprocal carry" part of the law is a poison pill put in to keep it from passing? I do.

RE :”The bill is nothing but show. It will be killed any way.”

You were the first to post that opinion and there is good chance you are right.

Morning Joe keeps saying a failure to pass anything on gun checks will hurt GOP in 2014 and beyond(because of polls) but I think it will be a big Obama failure, and few people think this issue is important.

For the life of me I don't understand why Schumer et. al. don't recognize this for what it is, i.e. a GOOD THING.

Are you serious? Here's a clue. These creeps are hard core Marxist/Globalist tyrants. They want us disarmed so they can steal our pension funds and savings accounts and then rule over us like its North Korea. They hate "the best citizens on the planet" because citizens with guns won't be ruled over by wanna-be God-Kings.

“As far as I’m concerned we should demand an elimination of background checks or nothing.”

I agree with you. With all the databases and ID’s out there, it should be a simple matter of determining if you are present on a “do not sell” list comprised of everyone that should not be able to have a gun.

A law abiding citizen should need only establish identity to prove they aren’t on the list and having done so, go about their business.
