The 18-year-old suspect shot during the botched robbery of a Marrero sandwich shop was a former employee, according to a Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office arrest report. Robert McClure, of Marrero, was still in critical condition Monday after he was shot multiple times while allegedly trying to hold up Chateau Orleans Po Boy Shop at 2324 Barataria Blvd. on Saturday night.
An unidentified 38-year-old employee was also wounded by gunfire during the robbery. He was shot in the arms and expected to recover.
Sheriff's Office investigators said McClure donned a mask and dark-colored clothing, armed himself with a 20-gauge shotgun and entered his former place of employment through a back door around 11:24 p.m. He spotted the employee, who had been cleaning up, and ordered him to the front of the business, authorities have said.
But the store's owner overheard the robber's commands and grabbed a semi-automatic pistol. When McClure turned to face the store owner, the employee reached for the shotgun. As the two struggled for the weapon, the store's owner opened fire, striking McClure several times, authorities said.
McClure ran out the back door. Deputies later found him just behind the shop near the intersection of Ehret Road and Champagne Street. Detectives later determined the shotgun had been reported stolen from a Jefferson Parish residence in 2011, the arrest report said.
Once released from the hospital, McClure will be booked with attempted armed robbery, illegal possession of stolen firearms and aggravated assault. Stay with NOLA.com for more information as it becomes available.

Funny story about where I get my boiled crawfish sometimes.
In Boutte, they got a place called Hebert’s Seafood. When I first moved down here in the early 70’s I used to do a lot of fishing and bought my market bait from Hebert’s. I was considered a Yankee cause anyone from North of I-10 was considered a Yankee, and I was from way North of I-10. Well, I was very respectful of the locals and I made it a point to learn the local dialect.
Early one morning I was there buying some shrimps for the days fishing, and the old lady (God rest her soul) was working. I made the mistake of calling her Mrs. “A bear”. She got all red in the face and said very sternly, “It’s “He Bert”, I’m German. I ain’t no coonass.
Damn, I love Louisiana.
Well, I apologize all over da place and after dat, I knewed she forgive me cause she youst to trow some of dem rock shrimps on da side for me for when I come in to get me some baits, an erybody know, dem redfish can’t resist dem tings.
