WASHINGTON U.S. officials quietly are expressing concern that North Korea could use its space launch vehicle to explode a high-altitude nuclear device over the United States, creating an electromagnetic pulse that would destroy major portions of the U.S. electrical grid system as well as the nations critical infrastructures.
The concern is so great that U.S. officials who watch North Korea closely are continually monitoring the status of the North Korean space launch vehicle, whose status could suggest a pre-emptive nuclear strike against the United States.
They are aware of the three-stage missile North Korea launched last December that also orbited a package, which experts say could be a test to orbit a nuclear weapon that then would be deorbited on command anywhere over the U.S. and exploded at a high altitude, creating an EMP effect.

and what would Obuumer do about it?

Dear Moderators and FR Friends,
That does it.
I’m cannot complain about this topic — I know that a pulse is a real danger. And chemicalman, please don’t take what I’m going to say as a criticism of your starting this thread. Thank you for posting this.
I am so tired of the constant, incessant, panic-driven, Search-Engine-Optimized headlines coming out of WND that I am asking for an outright ban of anything coming from that publication.
We need focused discussion on some very serious issues. In my opinion, we do not need to have the shouts of a deranged, market-driven, headline-mongering, irrelevant publication that time and time again tries to sew panic and fear. They are making conservatives look like fringe lunatics. I believe the days when WND was of benefit have passed and now they are only trying to gain web hits.
I would ask the Moderators to consider making this an FR policy, or perhaps to poll the community if this would be a good course of action.
Again, chemicalman, please don’t take this as a criticism of you. I read the headline and immediately jumped. I am weary of having our emotions played on, and I think I have had enough of WorldNetDaily.
Thank you, Moderators, for your consideration. And bless you, regardless of your decision.

It’s not the first time that I said this, but EMP them first.
Besides, does anybody still watch that PBS music show anymore?

I think you’re way out of line in making such demands.. If you don’t like the source of an article don’t click on the link to read it. Or is that too much to ask of you? Stop acting like a whiny little prima donna.
Maybe our little X-37B space plane could disable that ‘package’.
We would loose our internet and FR.
Obama would never nuke Austin, to many liberals there.
This country underestimated 19 foreign students with box cutters and a few flight lessons.
With the stupid squibs the norks have managed to date, it would be an Insignificant Magnetic Pulse, creating an IMP effect.
That’s irritating.
Maybe this article serves only as a reminder. The issue may not be this particular instance or source, but the fact that an EMP attack by anyone is moderately plausible (technically and politically) and highly catastrophic (90% mortality rate, the end of Western influence and way of life).
And, although not easy, for a fraction of the multi-year $timulu$e$, by hardening our electrical grid, this extremely high risk would be mitigated.
“Maybe this article serves only as a reminder.”
Agreed. The consequences of a pulse would be more catastrophic than people imagine. This scenario which needs far more attention than it is getting.
I wonder what percentage of the populace has even heard of an EMP let alone know what could happen because of one.
I doubt we’ll ever see another Republican president..
Obama will probably be on vacation when it happens..

Perhaps we need to buy JR a big pile of wood and learn how to read smoke signals.
“I think youre way out of line in making such demands.. If you dont like the source of an article dont click on the link to read it. Or is that too much to ask of you? Stop acting like a whiny little prima donna.”
I didn’t mean to sound like I was making a demand. I’m a guest here along with everyone else, and I am grateful to belong to the community.
It is my opinion that WND is publishing articles designed to cause fear — for the purpose of getting web hits. The title of this article is “U.S. on alert for nuclear blast overhead.” This is over-the-top. Yes, there is a threat. A great threat. But that company is capitalizing on fear, and I am not alone in this opinion.
“Stop acting like a whiny little prima donna.”
I apologize if my post soundy whiny. I do hope that is not the case. I have no demand to make. But I do stand by my request. I think that WND has gone too far, and my opinion is that FR should not be sending them traffic. I think WND has become bad for conservatism. Again, this is my opinion. And the Moderators are very free to ignore me.
I ended my post with “Thank you, Moderators, for your consideration. And bless you, regardless of your decision.” I don’t think that sounds like I am a “whiny little prima donna.” At least I hope not.
But thank you for your response. I sometimes need to be pulled back like everyone else, and I went back and re-read my post to see if I had come across as demanding. I don’t think I did, but it can be good to be cautioned. I thank you.
One other thing: I checked out your Freeper page and see that you served in the USMC 1981 - 1996. Awesome! Thank you for your long service to our country.
