Very often people are, deep down, afraid to get better. They are as addicted to self pity as they are to alcohol or drugs.

And the pity of others. I have been living a situation like this for 7+ years. What is really hard to finally accept is that you can't make someone else change, they have to choose to do it.

I happen to know how it goes (and I’m not even an alcoholic homeless.) Having sisters oughta be illegal!

Wow, I definitely see the similarity with Madonna except for the glasses.

Funny how the poor suffering guy manages to be homeless in the most upscale conservative leaning city in the state.

Madonna's brother still struggling on the "mean streets" of Traverse City. I think he should Crash at Michael Moore's crib.

If I recall from the last story I read about the guy, his father ended up firing him from his job at the winery the father owns.

There’s a big God sized hole in everyone. Sadly, some people fill it up with drugs and alcohol.

How old is the father? Look at the son, he could pass for 64. He really should moisturize. Anyway the deal reminds me of an old Jackson Browne ditty.

Traverse city is pretty upscale. I wouldn’t be surprised that the evil rich folks in the area donate a lot to the poor.

“...homeless alcoholic .....” Some times helping means letting one do something to help them selves.

I never realized how many Madonna fans were on this site willing to stand with her against her brother.

I’m sorry, but he doesn’t have a right to one dime of her wealth. The fact is, if she ‘helped’ him, she’d be enabling him and he probably would be dead from ODing on alcohol within a year.

Sometimes the best thing you can do is walk away and let another adult sort it out.

Some relatives need to be abandoned. I’ve got a list of in-laws that are suckling at the teets of other family members and not allowed anything from us, when those other relatives die these in-laws will be homeless, and I’m OK with that. And so’s the wife.
