CNN) -- Police released new documents related to the shootings last year at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut, but a motive for the attack by the troubled young man remained elusive.

Included in the information released Thursday is the report that a gun safe was found in the bedroom of 20-year-old Adam Lanza, who took guns belonging to his mother, Nancy, and shot her in her forehead in her bed. Then he went to the school in Newtown, where he gunned down 20 children and six staff members before killing himself.

Investigators found more than 1,600 rounds of ammunition in the house, and a holiday card with a check "made out to Adam Lanza for the purchase of a C183 (firearm), authored by Nancy Lanza," according to a search warrant.

The ex-con who shot the corrections chief in CO last week had a woman buy the gun for him.

Got a link for that? I haven't heard that.

Bushmaster in the building and used for all the killings. Lanza committed suicide with the Glock 10MM he was carrying. Out in the car was the Saiga 12 ga shotgun (which has an AR15-like appearance to the casual observer). That similarity between the Saiga 12 and an AR-15 has spawned LOTS of rumors. The “glove box” reference in the recent article is simply crap and must be the result of seconding some foreign press version of the story.

“The police found a loaded 12-gauge shotgun in the passenger compartment of the car the shooter drove to the school. The shotgun was moved by police from the passenger compartment of the car to the trunk for safekeeping.”

So he walked around that school, shot 27 people in less than five minutes??

That many kids in one classroom. It is more than doable with 1911 and swapping 7 rd magazines.
I don't get how he could have shot just 1 kid. His brand of psychosis is very disturbing.

All these details. All this information.

Except the only information which matters: what medications he was taking.
That knowledge is apparently forbidden to us.

many remember that one and wondered what the heck ???
here is a professional individual with a son that has problems and can’t get anything done ?
all she had to do was call 911 if her son ever threatened her and get out of the way—the same for having firearms within his grasp—doesn’t make sense either.

He shot a group of 15 huddled children in one room. One thing they should learn from this is that group huddles (shelter in place) is a bad idea in active shooter situations.

The way I am reading this article indicates that the State’s Attorney said a 12 gauge shotgun was found in a “passenger compartment”

To me that means glove box. Could it mean the passenger seat or is there some other kind of compartment in that type of car..

It makes no sense

Normal human social responses to danger do not usually make sense in an active shooter situation. When unarmed always either run to or away from a gun. Never comply with the shooter. At Virginia Tech (IIRC) the shooter lined them up and made them wait for their .22 to the head. Don't wait for the .22 to the head - better a dozen in the back than one in the head.

Apparently, a C183 is also a camera.

Story says the gun safe was in Lanza’s room, but I remember reading that he pretty much lived in the basement. When the story first broke, there was no mention of whether or not the guns might have been secured or not. Since the safe was not broken into, he may have had the combo or was able to figure it out somehow. I’d like to know if it had a regular or electronic combo. A smart person could probably figure out the electronic combo w/o much difficulty.

A lightweight, jacketed .223 bullet at close range/high velocity will usually fragment.
