Rand Paul’s Budget Kills Departments of Commerce, Education, Housing, and Energy

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) today introduced a budget he says will balance the budget in five years with $2.3 trillion in tax cuts.

Paul’s “Platform to Revitalize America” brings spending below the historical average of 19.1 percent of GDP in the first year and spends $9.6 trillion less over the next 10 years based on the current Congressional Budget Office baseline. It achieves a $17 billion surplus in FY2018 and reforms entitlement programs — Medicare recipients, for example, would receive the same healthcare plan as members of Congress.

It replenishes $126 billion to the Defense Department stripped in sequestration and puts an annual cap on foreign aid at $5 billion. The plan also repeals ObamaCare and Dodd Frank.

Paul’s budget kills four government agencies: the departments of Commerce, Education, Housing and Urban Development, and Energy. It also privatizes the Transportation Security Administration.

“Washington has a serious and reckless spending problem that must be re-evaluated. American families across the country are required to live by a budget and Congress should be no different – every taxpayer dollar needs to be spent more wisely. Therefore, I am offering a plan that will address this country’s looming debt crisis in a truly timely manner – balancing the budget in just five years,” Paul said. “The time has come for a change that will restore fiscal order in this country, and I will do everything in my power to ensure that this happens.”

His budget includes a flat tax and lifts barriers to domestic energy exploration and production.

UPDATE: Late this evening the Senate voted on Paul’s budget as an amendment to the continuing resolution. It failed 18-81.

Defund DHS and the (EVIL) TSA as well, and you’ve got a deal!;)

Here’s the list of 18 patriots who voted for Paul’s budget:

Barrasso (R-WY)
Coburn (R-OK)
Cornyn (R-TX)
Crapo (R-ID)
Cruz (R-TX)
Enzi (R-WY)
Flake (R-AZ)
Inhofe (R-OK)
Johnson (R-WI)
Lee (R-UT)
McConnell (R-KY)
Moran (R-KS)
Paul (R-KY)
Risch (R-ID)
Scott (R-SC)
Sessions (R-AL)
Shelby (R-AL)
Vitter (R-LA)

These are the only Americans left in the Senate. They should form a THRID PARTY, because the rest are LIARS AND THIEVES.

I wonder if Paul’s planned tax revenue includes the costs of future wars, nation building or domestic recessions.

We'd stay out of wars if it would be feasible. Nation building... why? War is fought to destroy the enemy. Domestic recessions... With taxes lowered enough, restrictions lowered enough, as much red tape as humanly possible is cut, there won't be another recession for a long, long time.

The Department of Energy should be privatized.

Nuke it. The market doesn't need some centralized beast to handle these issues. Let the free market supply and demand handle it.

Most of the other cabinet departments need to go also, especially HEW that wastes the equivalent of the annual economy of the world's sixth largest country.

RE: Easy, less taxes means more jobs, a growing economy.

Sure, but you still need to defend the country, and fund our Justice System ( both constitutional ).

How do you do it without tax collectors?

The DOE doesn’t have to be involved in National Defense. This is really a relic of the cold war and Eisenhower’s Atoms for Peace initiative. I am pretty no other country with nukes has them has their department of energy inovlved. Trust me, there isn’t any DOE reps on an SSBN.

“McConnell?”

Wondering why he couldn’t drag some of his fellow RINOs along with him?

DoE is the responsible agency for the production and disposal of nuclear material...it also has labs that do other “high energy” activities of military interest...I agree it also has a large component that is unnecessary, but those national security components should be retained, and in some cases strengthened (if you still believe in nuclear deterrence).

And we had all of those things long before we had a Department of Energy. All of those necessary functions can be pulled out and established as their own seperate agencies as they were for decades before the DoE monster was created.

Agreed.

One, Coats, is a political appointee by the GOP who was asked to run by the GOP instead of giving the process a chance to run it's normal course (wasn't he living somewhere in the south before being asked to run?) and let others throughout the state compete for the seat.

The other won because, well, I'm not really sure why he won. There are many theories why Donnelly beat, geez, what was his name, oh yeah, Mourdock, but Donnelly beat a candidate whom the GOP establishment refused to help. I see that as the overall reason why he lost.

Yeah, Dumb and Dumber, because there is no distinction between the two. They are almost exactly the same.

And yet we still keep hearing, Here of all places, that libertarians should get lost, go away, they’re just Occutards.

The fact that it got voted down in flames just means we need more statesmen like Rand Paul rather than more RINOs like we’ve got, because at least Our RINOs are Republican cretins rather than Democrat cretins.

Exactly.

And who is planning on a filibuster of gun control in the Senate?

The same libertarian senators - Paul and Cruz.

Where are the oh-so-stalwart Republican “conservatives” on the issue? Oh, like John McCain? Selling us out, that’s where they are.

All four of these departments are much beloved by the American people, who consider them all essential. The people aren’t willing to cut anything, or they wouldn’t nominate and elect the useless politicians they do.

The Flat Tax MUST NOT HAVE and “pre-bates”

That is a horror story in the making. If they give ANY pre-bates Democraps will be falling all over themselves to see who can promise a bigger pre-bate. There is no way that ever goes DOWN.

I could be persuaded to have a flat tax of any income OVER the poverty level, but even that will be kicking and screaming
