Doctor Raoul died Saturday of a rare form of cancer. He was 58.
Raoul's family contacted us this morning to see if they could find out more about his activities as an activist.
This is such a shock. His family is looking for photos and stories about him.
He is and always will be a Free Republic icon.
He kind of fell off the face of the earth about 2 or 3 years ago now. All attempts we made to reach him failed.
If you have photos please contact me. Please feel free to post stories and I will make sure the family sees this thread.
Prayers to his family. A long term, wonderful friend of Free Republic. May God give him rest.
sad to hear...i always wondered what happened to him....
the first time i ever took part in a Freep, Dr Raoul was the driving force...it was 2/15/2003; there were 250K “peace protestors” (another words anyone who had a gripe against America) marching on the UN against the upcoming war in Iraq-
Dr Raoul led about two dozen of us to meet them face-to-face in the streets on 2nd Avenue....to say it got intense would be putting it mildly...he carried his infamous sign at the time; “WE GAVE PEACE A CHANCE- WE GOT 9-11”..
Afterwards Dr Raoul could see i was a little down; 250K of them, 20 or so of us...he said, “they’ve been at this for four decades- we’re just getting started!”- that gave me a lot of hope to the point i held my own single man Freeps against hillary clinton’s, move on house party’s etc...
the best words i can say is we, and by “we” i mean the nation and the Conservative movement, would be better off if we had hundreds of activists such as Dr Raoul...
family members who want more info feel free to Freep mail me...
This is sad news to hear. Dr. Raoul appeared at many FReeps with the DC chapter and had an uncanny quick wit. He had a software program that let him print out tape together the most awesome and hilarious protest signs. He racked up a lot of miles to get to DC so often. Together with kristinn they made an unbelievably effective tag team. If I recall correctly he was at the White House Freep the day in 2000 of the Elian Gonzalez raid and we made it over to the main gate at Andrews AFB to continue. Some other street theater was a Bill Clinton mask while holding plastic red roses and a sign that simply said ‘Looking for a Date’ or something like that. RIP Dr. Raoul.
R.I.P...
I think that may have been Race, Doc was a great guy, a loss to the FR crowd.
Hi, Cal—good to see you posting here, but I’m so sorry it has to be about Doctor Raoul’s passing. That breaks my heart.
Hope you are well and living the good life!
Hey hon. Miss ya around here. You got cuter over time. I’d hit it. lol
I. too, am in shock. RIP, Doctor Raoul.
Rest In Peace Friend!!
He was local. I am stunned by the loss. I am so sorry.
Just damn. He was the man.
Definitely..... a FR icon. Prayers up for him and his family.
Condolences to his family.
A brave and good man, gone far too soon.
I remember Raoul outside a moveon.org meeting. He had a megaphone and he kept saying “Attention everyone, please remember that there is a two drink minimum. Ted Kennedy is in the house and everyone must buy him two drinks !”
Well, WHO was in the striped prison garb and Clinton and Gore masks at the FR Inaugural Ball in 2001? I thought that was Kristinn and Dr. Raoul, although I couldn’t swear to it because, of course, they were wearing masks. They brought down the house when Mike Huckabee launched into Jailhouse Rock and those two took the stage with their antics!
Sidesplittingly funny.
We’ve lost quite a few since then. Bad Joe is another one who is gone who I remember from that party.

Another great Raoul chant: Mean Spirited Arrogant Condescending Liberal!
RIP
Wow..shocked
