DENVER (AP) Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper will sign legislation Wednesday that sets limits on ammunition magazines and expands background checks for firearms, marking a Democratic victory in a state where gun ownership is a treasured right and Second Amendment debate has played out in the wake of two mass shootings.
The measures proposed are some of the strictest gun laws in the nation, and their passage comes after weeks of tense legislative battles. Republicans and gun rights supporters put up a major fight against the measures in this politically moderate state, while Democrats made them the centerpieces of a package of legislative proposals drafted in reaction to shooting rampages at a suburban Denver movie theater and a Connecticut elementary school last year.
Hickenlooper spokesman Eric Brown confirmed Monday that the governor would sign the measures.
Colorados gun controls, which become effective July 1, are the first beyond the East Coast approved this year.

A Colorado-based magazine manufacturer said it would leave the state if the new restrictions were passed, taking hundreds of jobs with it. Democrats tried to ease the concerns from Magpul Industries, saying the company can still manufacture higher-capacity magazines if they were sold out of state.

Sheriff Maketa releases statement regarding gun control stance
Historically, any citizen would be allowed to speak if they arrived at the Capitol early and signed up on testimony records. Although sign up sheets were in place and citizens including myself signed up, we were completely disregarded. Minutes after I signed up to testify, I learned a different process would be utilized and testimony was based on three categories: experts, preferred witnesses, and public witnesses. No explanation was provided to define expert or preferred witness. I was told this decision was made by the senate president and the chairperson of the hearing committee. Additionally, experts would have no time constraints and all others would be restricted to three minutes.
As I made my way out of the Capitol, I was shocked at the number of people who attended these hearings. It's estimated the number of people in attendance reached 1,000. I spoke to several and was told they just wanted their voice to be heard.
I am not sharing this because of the outcome of the hearings that day; rather I am sharing this because of the process implemented and the faces of all those citizens that were never permitted to participate in the process. Government is supposed to be by the people, for the people and on this day, they were crushed and kicked to the side. Special interest coalitions and hand picked experts with no relevant expertise trumped our citizens.

And Magpul immediately announced plans to leave the state. I think I’m going to buy some magpul mags.
So he loses several firearms manufacturers then?
Repub reps pass magazines around that even touching mags you don't even own can make the person touching the magazines criminals under the new CO law. Dims whine and cry about it. Ha.
Good luck. If you find any in stock, please let me know. I am on a list for 8 if they ever come in.
Apparently Gov Hickenlooper has announced that he will sign HB 1224 on Wednesday. We were asked for our reaction, and here is what we said:
We have said all along that based on the legal problems and uncertainties in the bill, as well as general principle, we will have no choice but to leave if the Governor signs this into law. We will start our transition out of the state almost immediately, and we will prioritize moving magazine manufacturing operations first. We expect the first PMAGs to be made outside CO within 30 days of the signing, with the rest to follow in phases. We will likely become a multi-state operation as a result of this move, and not all locations have been selected. We have made some initial contacts and evaluated a list of new potential locations for additional manufacturing and the new company headquarters, and we will begin talks with various state representatives in earnest if the Governor indeed signs this legislation. Although we are agile for a company of our size, it is still a significant footprint, and we will perform this move in a manner that is best for the company and our employees.
It is disappointing to us that money and a social agenda from outside the state have apparently penetrated the American West to control our legislature and Governor, but we feel confident that Colorado residents can still take the state back through recalls, ballot initiatives, and the 2014 election to undo these wrongs against responsible Citizens.
Will this prove to be a COM/DEM victory or ultimately a defeat.
Lots of “bitter clingers” in CO.
Am told there are 3 active recall petitions in motion.

Yeah, I bet that works.
The company will leave......
Yup, Magpul has already done much of the leg work on their pending move out of Colorado.
It makes me proud to have bought some of their products.
And Colorado will officially become Colofornia.

Yeah, I bet that works.

Hope Magpul follows thru on their threat.
LOL! Yeah. "moderate". It went for Obama for Pete's sake. There is nothing "moderate" about voting for a Marxist.
Right. The DUmb Dems margin of victory in the CO elections were not all that much and some were razor thin.
A few days ago, I counted at least 12 districts that can easily flip to Rs in 2014. If that were to happen in the lower CO house assembly, it would make it 40 to 25 for a Repub majority.
I don’t think these clowns would be so bold if it was not for outside pressure from the Obama/Biden and the Soros crew.
You made me go read the entire article. I thought maybe that Long Form Birth Certificate was found hidden in a Magpul magazine! lol
I am sorry. Had copied for a prior paste. Hilighted the new one and thought when I pasted it was correct. But still had the old copy in the clipboard.
I am tired and did a poor job of handling multiple threads.
One of my weaknesses is hurrying and not being careful enough at proofing.
That is what I thought.
