U.S. to bolster missile defenses to counter North Korea threat: Hagel (cites...EPA???)

......Admiral James Winnefeld, vice chairman of the U.S. military's Joint Chiefs of Staff, expressed confidence in the missiles and said he believed the steps taken by the United States would make North Korea's young leader, Kim Jung-un, think twice before acting on bellicose rhetoric.

"We not only intend to put the mechanics in place to deny any potential North Korean objective to launch a missile to the United States, but also to impose costs on them if they do," he told reporters.

"And we believe that this young lad ought to be deterred by that. And if he's not, we'll be ready."

Here is a Question for FR forum: will the EPA clear the US military to attack North Korea, and if not will we be able to (facetiously). Our unstable Mr. Hagel as a matter of course talks about the EPA in this presser. Hagel, in a mumbling bumbling seemingly drugged state, emphasized the "saving of time" to get "EPA clearance" of the sites. This man is a complete incompetent, a tool-- a bad sergeant from the motor pool where a sharp tactician is needed. The N. Koreans could not hit the side of a barn with a spitball-- this is pure utter BS and DIVERSIONARY from Iran (who will walk across our border with one). And one more tool for obamaumao to use to beat our military into plowshares suitable for a 3rd world nation to attack us, and leave us needlessly at risk. The entire program as presented was put out by GW Bush, and castigated by dems. Hence quite costly now. And it is not the little Jong-Un (who is a teenager with a video game)calling the shots. Let us now cut off their food-- NOW. And, this Admiral is a complete tool as well-- what an idiot-- "this lad" LAD??? He's a fat little pig who went to US prep schools. The entire plan is now an afterthought gambit to put austerity in question and WASTE dollars on systems that are struggling at best and not needed at worst. More Cloward Piven.

Other than the EPA BS (why is that even brought up) and the fact they do not credit Reagan and Bush I have no problem placing defensive weapons over there.

IMHO, this all prepratory to Obama accepting Iranian nukes by throwing a few interceptors up and butressing the thought that there is a magic umbrella over the U.S. so therefore no one should be concerned that his properly elected Iranian friends now have the ability to kill U.S cities.

but . . . north korea has put a missile into the edge of space. They have also been able to get their missiles off the ground, over japan and into the pacific. They have also had some help from the ruskies and iran. So to think they have no capability at all is naive. But their biggest gun are all their Surface to Surface missiles and long range artillery. They can do some damage to US forces in the area, set off a few dirty or micro nukes. And that’s all they really need to accomplish to cross the dmz, grab seoul and not let go. They take Seoul, the US is not going in to free it. And if they got Seoul, they got a reunified Korea.

“We not only intend to put the mechanics in place to deny any potential North Korean objective to launch a missile to the United States, but also to impose costs on them if they do,” he told reporters.

Admiral Whinefield’s statement means:
1) right now, the U.S. lacks the capability to stop their missiles (we merely INTEND to have it some day); and,
2) the U.S. would NOT necessarily massively retaliate to an NK missile attack.

Most Americans are too stupid or lazy to parse words carefully. The North Korean regime, China, and the governments of the Pacific allies that (used to) depend on U.S. protection, do not share that debility.

I happened to be at someone’s house last night when the NBC network evening news with Brian Williams came on. (Something I pretty much never ever watch myself).

This NORK threat was the lead story, but it was presented like “don’t worry the Obama administration is taking care of it”

So don’t sweat it west coasters, Baraq is on the job!

“will the EPA clear the US military to attack North Korea”

I took me nine months to get a permit to build a house. The EPA will take nine years (Polar bears, salmon, insect census studies just for openers)at least.

Last time I recall hearing the word “lad” used was by the
inestimable William Westmoreland referring to US troops as “lads”. To call this little korean pig-twerp a lad is really something tone deaf else.

A term of respect or recognition or affection. Opinion- one that defines they are “young” and therefore pliable, and as is wont in the young willing to die for any cause (the shame being those who misuse that, or use it and then fail to care for those who GAVE and suffered).

Ok, point taken. But realize that the Aegis system is already up, mobile and targetable. This “make work” for yet another land based system that would require “EPA” (honestly holy crap) approval and build “new” bases (even as we shutter existing paid for properties perfectly capable of handling the deployment)-— this plays to more stimulus and crony contracting and.....demo money laundering for the critical House districts. Ie. the same old game.

We can handle the N. Koreans with the US Navy and many other assets. Period. Which is why major leaders of the Navy have been culled by obamaumao. That and maybe (whispered) “preakness” bets (7 dias en Mayo).
We are being put at risk to much worse actors by this clever mack daddy. The chinee. With thanks to Harry Truman.
