The elevation Wednesday of Argentine Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio as the Roman Catholic Churchs 266th pope and the first from Latin America brought cheers across South America but also served as a reminder of the churchs role during the regions dark days of dictatorship in the latter half of the 20th century.
More recently, Bergoglio has been known for his confrontations with Argentinas last two presidents, the husband and wife team of Nestor and Cristina Kirchner.

Pinochet also provided valuable intelligence to the Brits during the Falklands War.
That was one of the main reasons he was on the Left’s ‘Hit List.”
Very true, and it’s the reason the Labour government tried to arrest him and extradite him to Spain during a visit.
>>Don Novello aint dead.<<
Oh, sorry. I am from the LA area. I got his career and him confused.
Understandable for those of us who lived under the umbrella (penumbra?) of The Business.
Can you imagine scrounging free drinks in a dive bar in Pacoima saying “I used to be a famous priest dude on SNL in the 70s! Finda da Pope in da Pizza...”
Death would be kinder.
Screw the Leftist revisionists, Pinochet was a hero.
Yikes. That’s a little harsh.
It’s always sad, the Pope is praised all day long.
Never heard the word Jesus all day, HE IS WHAT IT IS ALL ABOUT!
Satan must be having a party!
MEANWHILE, on CNN, they are using the phraseology “His standing on women’s rights and equality is unknown...”, (meaning Abortion and gay marriage).
Boy, you can REALLY see the meme the US mainstream media is pushing hard, can’t you. They MUST use the Gay/Democrat-approved phrasing to pimp the meme, or risk losing the job.
>>Yikes. Thats a little harsh<<
My post was more of a commentary of The Business than Mr. Novello.
I hope he’s doing OK. He is alive and maybe I was poking too hard of fun at him.
Based on his IMDB pic he looks pretty dang good (read: not drug/alc addled) so I cheer him on.
Now you guilted me into getting ahold of him next time I am in town.
But it is a good guilt.
>>Satan must be having a party!<<
If you believe that you are 1) ignorant of the RCC; and (I do not suggest or); hate Catholics.
If Francis I is as all I have read, Satan is cringing, thinking “Paul II was a handful — now I have a man VERSED IN THE THINGS I USE TO FOOL OTHERS??”
You know, like ignorant FReepers....

Well, give him my best if you see him. ;-)
Jesus is the only way to heaven “If He be lifted up”,
Not the Pope, or any man.
Jesus was not lifted up today,
THINK Before you speak.
Satan has a field day when Jesus is forgotten about.
By the way you even praised the new Pope.
Did you even mention jesus you self?
>>Well, give him my best if you see him. ;-)<<
I shall.
And, having no connection to that other than popularity at that time, I was casting about and found Murray Head is also still with us (only 67 and also looking pretty good)...
He was the original Judas on Jesus Christ Superstar. That is like being Maria on West Side Story (only a guy). The best-known character on the album that created the “Rock Opera.”
IMHO — a big deal.
By the way you even praised the new Pope.
Did you even mention Jesus you self?

Well, I did say to myself “Jesus Christ these Pope haters are both mean and fools!”
Since you wish to continue to be the fool, here is the Good Pope’s speech (http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/1303/13/se.01.html):
He begins with The Lord’s Prayer — Jesus’ most impassioned prayer He left with us. When we repeat it, we are walking in Jesus’ footsteps. There is no more important reference to Him than that prayer.
I’ll try to help you and I may not be as kind as His Holiness:
>>POPE FRANCIS I (through translator): Let us pray, all of us together, for him so that he is blessed by the lord and guarded by the Madonna.
Our father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee. Blessed are thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
In the name of the father, the son and the Holy Spirit.
<<
For the fools in the audience who don’t read Latin (or can derive it from Spanish) and thus assume all non-English talk is gobbledygook and thus bereft of references to Jesus, this is the LORD’S PRAYER. Jesus is spoken about through the term “The Lord.” But because God knew there would be fools and simpletons, he actually uses the name “Jesus” in this prayer. Our God is a kind God (and more forgiving than us who reside in the flesh).
Moving on...
>>As (INAUDIBLE) shall remain for centuries and centuries. Let us begin this journey together, the successor and the people. And this journey for the Roman Catholic Church, it is a journey of friendship, of love, of trust, and faith between us. Let us pray always for one another. Let us pray for the whole world, because let us have a big brotherhood. I wish that this journey for the church that we are going to start today, and my vicar cardinal is going to help me — let’s hope that this journey bears fruit for the evangelizing from this beautiful city.
<<
OK, you win this round. No specific mention of Jesus. Just the brotherhood that Jesus advocated. What an EVIL idea!
>>(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)
POPE FRANCIS I (through translator): I would like to offer you my blessing, but I would like to ask a favor first, first that — before the bishop, bless the people.
I would like to pray for the lord, so that the prayer of the people blesses also the new pontiff.
Let us pray in silence your prayer to me.
<<
Um, fool, Lord=Jesus (already referenced from the beginning).
More now...
>>
POPE FRANCIS I (through translator): Now my blessing to you and to the whole world, to all the men and women goodwill. And may the blessing of all almighty God, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit descend on you, and remain with you always. Amen.<<
The Son. Do you think the Pope spoke of Bart Simpson?
He speaks of and about Jesus. And the new Pope prays for all of us, fools alike.
I suggest you pray, reflect and perhaps send a prayerful apology to the new pope. You are wrong on facts, on theology and on our spirit.
I pinged Sal and NYer because they might be able to help you in a more gentle way.
The Pope is the latest in a line that runs unbroken directly back to Petros: “Upon this Rock I shall build my Church.”
Pope Francis I spoke of and about Jesus. Those who can hear and read know so.
Please forgive more hitting you with a metal gauntlet. But it was your request.
Bless you and God bless and guide Pope Francis I (If you are interested, I can give some background on that fascinating name).
And I once met the director of “West Side Story”, that being the late Robert Wise (after he replaced Jerome Robbins) at a film seminar back in 1994. Curiously, of the five main leads in that film, all but one are still alive today, even 52 years later (that being Richard Beymer, 74; Russ Tamblyn, 78; George Chakiris, 78; and the great Rita Moreno, 81). Only poor Natalie Wood is gone, and she’d have been 74 this past July.
>>Curiously, of the five main leads in that film, all but one are still alive today<<
Wow, that is a GREAT stat! Sort of like The Dick Van Dyke Show — all the major stars are alive, but we miss Millie and Jerry (a great director).
I saw Rita Moreno in a new TV show the other day. Hubba hubba, that woman has beauty that transcends time!
