My Daddy used to tell me to never trust a husband who said he was the head of the household because he'd lie about other things, too.
My brother put it more succilently. He said he was the head of his household only in the nautical definition of the word head.

My husband and I decided that one of us always had to make the final decision.
So he would be the final arbiter of big decisions, I would be for the lesser.
So far in forty years nothing big has come up.

The key to a successful marriage is for the wife to know who is boss and for her to occasionally allow the husband to pretend that it is him.
