I think the mask covers up whatever-it-is that attracts the flies, but it tends to slip and expose the rot.
I’ve been joking about the Obama ice sculpture attracting flies, but would anybody really be surprised?
It would be an awesome target for some pranksters who could smear it with meat juices or something, but I don’t think a prank is necessary. A prank would more likely be a fake cover story while Ice City tried in desperation to pinpoint the problem.

Odds are good that there will be another round of fly photos (and/or some other documented omens and scourges) during this Jerusalem visit.
The natural response is to wave the fly away, not to want to have any part of it. Who knows where it was before?!
Those photos show he is quite content to coexist with a fly on his forehead (like an evil third eye), on his lip! Just... not... right...
