DENVER (CBS4) Gov. John Hickenlooper says he will support Rep. Rhonda Fields bill limiting rounds in gun magazines. The governor spoke with CBS4 Political Specialist Shaun Boyd about the gun control issue on Tuesday.
Some felt the governor had been going back and forth on this issue. He admitted to Boyd its been a hard decision and he has waffled, but now he says if the legislature passes the bill he will sign it even if it means losing 200 jobs.
Hickenlooper says he does not think the magazine manufacturer Magpul is bluffing when it says it will leave the state if the bill passes.
The governor insisted his decisions on the gun measures are not based on any pressure from Washington. While Vice President Joe Biden has called several state lawmakers, Hickenlooper told Boyd he hasnt had anyone from the White House contact him.
The Sandy Hook shooting in Connecticut influenced the governors position.
You put yourself in the shoes of that principal and resource officer running for their lives and trying to save the kids and whats in their minds; and him just flipping around and hes got a 30-shot clip. Hes got two 30-shot clips taped together, Hickenlooper said. Youve got to think, Is the convenience of someone at a target range not having to change their clip quite so often worth the risk to citizens and people in their neighborhoods?
The governor has not decided if he will sign a bill banning concealed carry on college campuses, and he wouldnt even comment on a bill being introduced Wednesday that would make gun retailers and manufacturers liable if their weapons are used in a crime.
It's going to be hard. My county Sheriff signed the letter saying he wouldn't enforce unConstitutional gun control laws so I think I will continue to buy 30 rd mags as often as I like. It's only an 1 1/2 drive to the WY border from here.
'If youre the president, member of congress, govt. agent, etc, the only reason why anyone should listen to what you say, is because you exercise power via the Constitution'.
'If the Constitution doesnt count, you dont have any legitimate power, and should be (forcibly) removed for trying to exercise power you dont possess'.
“...The liberals love the crooks and hate us.”
Yeah, but now we are going to be the crooks.
This governor thinks that the hero principle and counselor at sandy nook were thinking about the magazine in the gun of the shooter??? I'd bet they were wishing the had an AR of their own in their hands with a high capacity magazine in those last few seconds. They died charging that crazy man trying to stop him with their bare hands. Too bad they were not equipped with the proper tools to stop him before he murdered more innocent children.
How far Colorado has fallen. Wasn’t CO a Red State only about ten years ago?
Use the proper terminology as the Police do. It’s a ‘patrol rifle’ with a ‘standard issue’ magazine.
I read that the place has been infected with people who fled California after they destroyed that state with their Democrat votes and are now destroying Colorado the same way. They are moving eastward like locusts with STDs.
That must be what happened to Colorado... the invasion of the liberal Californian locusts. It's SO sad to see.
My husband and I were out there (just for vacation) back in October 2002... there were mid-term elections going on. The only liberal area in CO I remember then was Boulder.
Hubby and I stopped by several GOP offices... the Colorado Republicans were so happy and proud at how "Red" their state was, and they greatly pitied us because we lived in The People's Republik of Connecticut. They loved their Governor Bill Owens, who I think was very conservative. Everything gleaned from our conversations with CO Republicans led us to believe that Colorado would be conservative "forever".
It's very disturbing to see how far Colorado has fallen in just 10 short years...
If an authority insists that your magazine was bought after the effective date of the legislation, whip out ( or you feel compelled to) a copy of the pre-ban invoice/receipt for the "offending" magazines(s). Keep a copy of the pre-ban invoice in your wallet when out and about with the very very bad and liberal offending magazine(s).
However, in accordance with the would be Colorado "feel good" lib law, The onus of proving that the mag "is unlawful" is on the state.
Now entering the People's Republik of Colorado.
Exactly. The guy is a dopey tavern owner -- you mean to tell me he didn't have a gun under the counter at all times?
You would enjoy Arizona. Northern Phoenix/North of the 101 is great. Best of luck to you and all our friends and family in Colorado.
Consider that Magpul would be manufacturing contraband under the new law, and would have to implement expensive inventory and security measures in their currently mundane plastic molding operation to avoid significant potential liability.
Is this a 303 Enfield clip and magazine ? Even in NY this may be banned as it is detachable and has a bayonet lug ? Trying to get clarification on this for my Mk 1V and Jungle carbine.

Yes they are. Good eye.
I have a brother-in-law that believed the same way. I e-mailed him yesterday and offered to hide his soon-to-be-illegal weapons in my gunsafe — provided I could shoot them from time to time.
Yes, and there’s a primary culprit for what happened. While the influx of the CA vermin has not helped the cause most of it comes down to Tim Gill, founder of Quark.
This guy(gay) founded Quark (desktop publishing company) and made a mint. He is a Colorado resident. When, years ago, Colorado passed a referendum saying atht the state would not make special rights for homosexuals (which got overturned by a court anyway), Gill went haywire and started dumping money into Colorado politics hand over fist. He also set up an organization for this purpose and roped in other rich lefties.
This made for a sea change in Colorado politics. Small elections which once upon a time involved maybe $50k (state rep races for instance) were now flooded by the lefties to the tune of multiple $100ks. The local GOP just couldn’t find a way to react. The money came flooding in from the left and washed over most of the state leaving far fewer conservative redoubts. Then on top of that we get the migration of CA scum dragging their nest fouling ways with them.
I honesty don’t see any good way for this place to recover. On top of the CA people, we’re getting a flood of illegals which are no doubt voting illegally (encouraged by the Democrats), and will breed like rabbits to win the demographic battle.
It’s really depressing since I moved to CO specifically because it was a nice conservative state. I even bought some land and built a place to retire on there out in the middle of nowhere. That leaves my pinned to a degree which really riles me. Wish I had bought in Wyoming instead.
Yeah, we were. But the Dem machine moved in about 2004 and they have really taken over. We have one of the lowest funded state employee pension plans ( think CA lite) and mandated wind-power and coal plant shut-downs. We have incredible natural gas reserves, but they''ve regulated them to half their previous amount, shut down all the coal mines, and locked up as much of the uranium and tight gas leases as wilderness areas and bat habitat as they can.
Long term outlook of CO is not so great. After all, you can't eat the scenery, nice as it is.
However, in accordance with the would be Colorado “feel good” lib law, The onus of proving that the mag “is unlawful” is on the state.
As it is in Kalaforica. When anyone asks just tell them you have had the mags for a very long time. Don’t change your story and they can’t do anything about it.
