ROSWELL, N.M. (KRQE) - Sheriff's deputies said a gunshot victim wasn't really a victim after all.
In fact, they said he's quite the opposite. According to investigators, the man who pulled the trigger was an 87-year-old hero.
Investigators believe the gunshot victim was in the process of chasing down and attacking a woman when the shooting happened.
The incident happened Sunday at a property in north Roswell in the 6100 block of Old Clovis Highway. A woman was doing laundry when she claims her neighbor, Larrell Stell, 49, took off his shirt and started talking.
"She reports being accosted by a male resident there," said Lt. Britt Snyder of the Chaves County Sheriff's Department. "He made sexual advances towards her, and she rebuffed that. He got upset and pushed her down,"
The woman, 24 and pregnant, said she took her 3-year-old daughter and ran to her landlord's house next door. She told deputies Stell barged his way inside, pushed her down and punched her face repeatedly.

"Having taken action with a handgun may have prevented a possible murder, maybe the murder of both of them," Snyder said. "We don't know."

Hmmm. Probably be called overly cynical for this observation, but: "At this point, Snyder said it appears the landlord will not be facing charges. He identified himself as a former sheriff's deputy..."
Says it all right there, I believe. I know if I had shot a neighbor in his place, I would be behind bars for awhile until everything was thoroughly investigated and had My weapon taken as evidence.
Then the other guy's lawyers would be suing for tens of thousands on an Attempted Murder charge (he was only stretching while stifling a yawn! (/sarc) ) and then had home and property searched to take away any other weapons I might have access to. Said weapons never to be returned, of course.

It’s easier to kick their ass if you shoot them once or twice first.

Personally, I'd rather avoid all the unpleasantness and loud noises. I don't study war anymore, my time doing that kind of stuff is over.
But if someone hits a pregnant woman in front of me, my red hair is gonna flare up, and I might need to replace some fancy carry ammo.

I love it when these articles have the comment section right there at the end... I about peed myself when I read the one comment, “The pregnant woman should’ve had scissors”

According to the report, the woman told deputies that after the suspect was shot [twice], he continued to pace around the property for nearly an hour. She said Stell even turned off her electricity before driving himself to the hospital. That's just wrong. This 87-year-old gentleman needs a shotgun or at last a .45.

There is something crazy with this story. Why didn't the woman call the police immediately after the old man shot the intruder. Also, the article said that the man drove himself to the hospital in Lubbock, which is close to two hundred miles away.

And the cops don't want you to own guns! This is exactly why there is a 2nd amendment. FU cops and FU liberal/commies! I guess that the "If it saves only one life" mantra is one-sided. I would like to see statistics that contrast the number of gun-owner saves vs. the murders committed. It could be a useful statistic to shove in their faces when they wring their hands and talk about "saving just one life".
