Four California high-school students were reportedly suspended for chanting U.S.A! U.S.A! and wearing American flag bandanas during a basketball game. While their punishment has since been rescinded, school administrators said the incident is far from over.
Oxnard Union School District superintendent Gabe Soumakian told Fox News Radio that we need to pursue this further and work with teachers and students and the community about the concept of cultural proficiency. Soumakian and Camarillo High School principal Glenn Lipman felt that the students actions might have had racist undertones since the schools have large Hispanic student populations.
We wanted to make sure [their actions weren't] racially motivated, and I told the kids I just want to be sensitive to the feelings of everybody, Lipman said. If were doing it for patriotism, thats fine. But if were doing it for something else thats racially motivated, Im not going to allow that.
But the students deny any racial element to their chants. Weve done it always, one student said. Its something we do. Its the same group of friends. Were

last I checked, being American isn’t a race
these kids are ‘guilty’ of having pride in their country... which is now a punishable offense, if that country is the USA
Lesson learned?: Surrender to Mexico, NOW!!!!
I bet Mexican flags are everywhere on Cinco de Mayo at that school
Who do you think you're kidding?
Madness.

USA USA USA
” actions might have had racist undertones since the schools have large Hispanic student populations.”
Hispanic is not a race to start with. The actions a nationalistic overtone, which is wrong how? They are offended at USA chants the can drag their sorry butts back where they came from. The adminis-traitors need to be shown the door
C’mon, this is California, for crying out loud!
It’s not like it happened in an American state!!
(Yes, it’s sarcasm)
So why would Hispanics be offended by the USA chant? They are loyal Americans, right? Right?
Problem is that most of the kids on the other side of the court came from right here and their parents are authorized to be here because the kids provide an anchor (despite the frequent sob stories).
The problem arises because, regardless of English proficiency, this segment of today's society believes that the culture and machismo of their "Homeland" (not the USA) should predominate simply because there are so many of them here. The roots and foundation of this nation are anathema to their ideology.
Disclaimer: I don't refer to ALL immigrants from mexico or any other state, very many really DO want to become Americans first, but they are not the ones these school administrators are trying to placate.
This is the only country I’ve ever heard of in which showing pride in your country is somehow a heinous crime.
What a country.
If only that were true...
Sadly it’s like that in all the western countries. The white world is eager to abolish itself.
This is just sickening that kids chanting USA are being punished. If those that are offended by such USA chants....maybe they need to return to their homeland....
I spent almost a week in Vancouver during the Winter Olympics in 2010. Everywhere there were Canadian flags, Canadian flag clothes, cheering Canadians, Bryan Adams concerts...yet I never felt uncomfortable at all. The worst thing that happened is that near the BC Place dome people might pee on your shoe because they were too drunk.
Well...I did have some Indian-Subcontinent female Vancouver PD start asking too many questions about my 12-pack of beer (”no...I am not drinking it on the SkyTrain, I am bringing it home to the USA...Alexander O’Keith’s IPA”). But, hey, a non-trad Canadian, what do ya expect. Guess she did not like my USA jacket I was wearing (which I wore the whole time in Vcouver...and no one else had a prob with it)
Same thing in Morgan Hill, California:
Boys wearing USA flag T-shirts on Cinqo de Drinko were first ordered to change, and then sent home.
Biiiig stink, too.
Yep. That’s it fer sure.
Taking pride in Amerika® is definitely racist.
You can move to France, but never be French.
You can move to Britian, but never be English.
You can move to Spain, but never be Spanish.
You can move to India, but never be Indian.
But ANYONE can move to America and become an AMERICAN.
It is something to celebrate. (Says this second generation Irish American)
Good to know there are some young people tired of the Mexican invasion too.
