Normal people don’t start sentences with, “...”

...but sir, I’m only wanting to let a proper interlude between the digestion of your fine comments and my own responses, so as not to seem to abrupt, if you catch my meaning...
...if the ellipses bother you then it’s begging your pardon I am, sir...

Here is a really simple question.

A child molester Priest pleads no contest to charges of lewd conduct for tying up and molesting two young boys in a San Francisco rectory.

He asks to leave the priesthood. His request is backed by the Diocese.

WHY WOULD YOU KEEP HIM AS A PRIEST AND LET HIM BE AROUND CHILDREN????

If it were stipulated for purposes of this thread that the Catholic Church has had a homosexual pedophile problem and that the current pope was not perfect in dealing with it, could we discuss other aspects of this news story?

Maybe someone in the group behind the Vatican Leaks was molested since Bertone was a target.

Or maybe a group - in a POLITICAL MANEUVER - was trying to keep him from being the next Pope since he was a frontrunner.

Thats what used to get all of the Soviet leaders too...that “ill health.”

The back story on this will be thrilling to read.

Pope Benedict also has been filling Cardinal positions with solid conservatives which will bode well when choosing a new pope.

Sure you can talk about other aspects. Doesn’t mean I have to.

I think there is a good chance the Pope is resigning for a reason other than bad health.

It could have absolutely nothing to do with child molesting.

Btw, I think there is a good chance that Ratzinger was blocked more than once in doing something about certain child molesters. Such as Sodano putting the clamp on him.

Just goes to show that the Catholic Church is very much a Political Organization

“The back story on this will be thrilling to read.”

For example, did the Pope resign before Sodano could oust Bertone???

“The late John Paul II’s secretary of state, Cardinal Angelo Sodano, is trying to sideline Bertone and put one of his own proteges in place before Benedict dies, Galeazzi said.”

Kind of like the jostling you see take place with the Supreme Court. Resign while you can still get a certain Judge put in place.

If it is not his health whatever is going on inside the Church must be very very powerful with major repercussions.

Guess what? You’re related to All of those pedophiles, so by your lame logic, you must be responsible for what they’ve done!

Shame on YOU and YOUR relatives who have raped children!

"In the 1970s, paedophilia was theorised as something fully in conformity with man and even with children,” the Pope said."

That's true. In 1973 the Board of Trustees of the American Psychiatric Association voted to remove homosexuality as a disorder category from the DSM, a decision ratified by a majority (58%) of the general APA. Here the Pope isn't adopting or endorsing that view, he's just reporting it: twisted men seeking sexual gratification with men and even with children was "theorized" (by the secular therapeutic community) as being in the normal range.

Conributing to sensible people's growing suspicion that Psychiatrists are often morally deranged.

Nothing here says the Pope agreed with the secular shrinks.

In the face of the coming wave of tendentious and inaccurate reporting on all things Papal, my advice to fellow FReepers is to perk up your ears when the reporter has a well-earned reputation for honesty, experience, and knowledge, like:

Has anyone consulted Father Guido Sarducci on this matter ?

You're joking and this is a serious matter. What does Michael Rivero know? (whatreallyhappened.com)

“Angry abuse victims in America last night said that while some Church officials have blamed the liberalism of the 1960s for the Church’s sex abuse scandals and cover-up catastrophes, Pope Benedict had come up with a new theory of blaming the 1970s.

“Catholics should be embarrassed to hear their Pope talk again and again about abuse while doing little or nothing to stop it and to mischaracterise this heinous crisis,” said Barbara Blaine, the head of SNAP, the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests,”

He will be missed. A very “Lutheran” Pope in a way. He understood us in a manner most do not.

I fear that the Lutheran/Catholic dialog will suffer if an another European is elected.

Just my two cents.

I’m not a Catholic. I’ve been a life-long Lutheran with pastors in the family. The very good pastors are dedicated to their church. They are guided by doing God’s will and leading God’s people.

That said, I believe that Pope Benedict is a good person, also trying to do God’s will and trying to lead God’s people. Pope Benedict’s health has not been good. My guess is that his doctor’s have told him that if he doesn’t scale back his activities, he will suffer a major health crisis (heart attack, stroke, death, whatever), sooner rather than later. With Lent starting this week, he will be called on to do so very much and that will add to the possibility of a major health crisis. I’m sure the Pope realizes that his hospitalization or death will draw attention away from Lent and Holy Week and he knows the focus now should be on Christ’s resurrection, not on the Pope’s health. I think he’s doing a very unselfish act for the good of his church.

btw, since you are always defending Ratzinger...I would like to hear your response to this question:
