Hunt for Christopher Dorner becomes major PR problem for L.A. police
The Christian Science Monitor ^ | February 10, 2013 | Brad Knickerbocker

The hunt for alleged cop killer Christopher Dorner has turned into a major public relations challenge for law enforcement officials, in particular the Los Angeles Police Department working its way back from a history of corruption and abuse.

Not only have hundreds of well-trained officers equipped with military-style vehicles – including helicopters with thermal imaging devices one pilot says can pick out a rabbit in a snowstorm – been unable to find the man charged with killing three people and wounding two others on a rampage aimed at police officers and their families.

The LAPD also has been forced to reexamine the reasons for Mr. Dorner’s dismissal as a police officer in 2009 – brought about, Dorner charges in the 11-page manifesto he posted on Facebook, by racism in the department. And the LAPD is having to make amends to the two people – a middle-aged Hispanic woman and her mother delivering newspapers – wounded when police riddled their truck with gunfire. (The women’s truck was neither the make nor the color of Dorner’s pickup later found abandoned.)

The search for Dorner continued Sunday in and around the San Bernardino mountains east of Los Angeles, but police were on edge and alert to the possibility that the alleged killer had left California. Police in Las Vegas (where Dorner owns property) are now traveling in pairs, and motorcycle patrol officers have been ordered into less-vulnerable cruisers...

We've had some pieces on FR over the years about the LA cops being understrength as compared to police forces in other cities. That's why they hang back in riots ~ allegedly.

Now that they're tied down by 1 guy...............

There are much better places to live than LA

Sad it took all this to get his case reopened. Sad at the loss of life, especially the young girl and her fiance. The anguish of her father. The sadness of the family that lost the 31 year old officer. Is the LAPD internal investigation system so poor it could not detect this trouble?

And what of the behavior the guy describes in his manifesto. How can that be ignored?

Turning a pickup truck into a replica of the Bonnie and Clyde death car with two innocent ladies on board will do that.

I imagine they are also trying to figure out how to catch a 6 foot, 270 lb African American guy without being accused of “racial profiling”.

Rut Roh. You may be right. It would be a “Hate Crime” if anyone of another race shoots him.

Christopher Dorner is a cowardly POS.

One of his victims, Michael Crain, 34, LEO AD, USMC, will be laid to rest on this coming Wednesday.

The uninformed voter influence has come home to roost.

Evidence the Face book pages, tweets, on-line comments to news stories —

And the news is reporting this stuff, which is supportive of Dorner.

So we now have the same social media participants who elected bo, supporting an anti-authority, ‘unfairly fired,’ minority member, and representative of the oppressed underclass; an anti-hero against the repressive police state.

Use your imagination on where this may go. I think I will give up predicting; I am never extreme enough in my sarcasm.

I don’t know that I’ve ever seen a headline on a major news story that is actually an understatement until now.

They are darn lucky they didn’t kill any of the 3 people they’ve blindly fired at...so far.

I’m sorry, but that behavior I just don’t understand.

Yes, they are color blind. They are looking for a large black male to shoot but they don’t want to be seen as racist so they have to shoot at whites and latinos too. I wonder who their asian victim(s) will be?

This can be classified as equal opportunity incompetence.
