WASHINGTON (AP) The Republican Party's problems with minority voters have preoccupied strategists since November, and it's possible those difficulties will persist or worsen.
But an opening for marked improvements in GOP-minority relations may be at hand, or at least close by.
Republican leaders would have to make some timely decisions and get a few breaks, which campaign consultants don't rule out.
The party desperately needs to draw more support from Latinos, a fast-growing sector that gave President Barack Obama 71 percent of its vote last fall. Two big opportunities now present themselves.
If Republican lawmakers allow far-reaching immigration changes to become law, even if most of them vote against it, the nettlesome issue might fade from political headlines and perhaps ease anti-GOP feelings among Hispanics. If Republicans in 2016 nominate a Latino for president say Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida it's possible that millions of Hispanic voters would back him.

Hey, I got an idea, let’s give them amnesty and more freebies.
hope springs eternal.
There’s a saying in the South where a Southerner is addressing a Northerner. It goes something like this. Welcome to the South, unless you are going to vote like you did in the North. Please go back to the North if you intend to vote like a Yankee.
I like where you’re going with that. Let’s also give the reply to the SOTU in Spanish...and Ebonics. A free Cheech and Chong DVD for the Hispanics, and Soul Plane for the blacks.
You can try to play the game of politics,
or you can try to govern the country.
Unfortunately, the GOP tries to play politics (which they suck at) and therefore never gets a chance to govern the country.
Lets see.....?????How about better ties with conservatives.
What’s in YOUR wallet?
The GOPe should show them how wishy-washy they are on principles. That will bring them in. /s
I am sick of this pandering. There is significant portion of the Hispanic population who oppose illegal immigration. The GOP just needs to draw its current voting block and draw a bigger chunk of these level-headed Hispanics and they can win the next few election cycles. Blacks are lost to the Republicans for at least a decade or more. If the repubs go to far in this pandering, they will lose a big chunk of their base and they will lose for years to come.
True, unfortunately most of them also want free stuff so they'll vote Democrat anyway.
The problem is that Hispanic's, particularly from Mexico, are a natural leftist constituency. They voted socialist in Mexico and vote the same way here in the US. In that regard they are no different than liberals fleeing failed blue states, yet they vote the same way (Democrat) in their new red state homes. These people are like locusts.
Sadly, many people simply never make a connection between their voting for leftist candidates and the economic failure that followers. You'd think they'd learn but most don't - and that is because voting tends to be more of a generational thing than it is based on cause and effect. Once someone has a leftist, collectivist mindset, there is usually little chance to change their mind. That means the rapidly growing Hispanic demographic is probably going to continue to vote left for a least another generation - and probably for generations to come.
Use to care what happened to The Grand Old Party, don't anymore.
"It is to be hoped, that if our cause is just, as I do most religiously believe it to be, the same Providence which in many instances appeared for us, will still go on to afford its aid."
LOL, good idea (sarc) We could give them the whole universe, and they would still vote RAT. I do not see anything that can be done wisely. Unfortunately, that is why I think there is little hope for America. Another thing that some minorities have told me personally, is they do not care if the country goes to hell in a hand basket, as long as non minorities get hurt in the process, and they consider the Rats as the best ones to hurt non minorities.
Well, the GOP can hope all it or they want(s), but the fact is that the base is gone for the most part and is likely to never come back.
Reagan won w/o the Hispanic vote.
How about the GOP reach out to the BASE! Millions among the BASE didn’t vote in the presidential election.
The majority of blacks and Hispanics are more comfortable as Democrats. We need to let that be...
Welcome to Arizona unless you’re from California and intend to vote like a liberal Californian. Stay the hell out of Arizona if you’re a stinking liberal
