He could have driven it up there with a motorcycle in the back? He could have parked the motorcycle elsewhere then parked the truck and burnt it. Then walked back to the motorcycle and drive out of there.

I don’t see the point in burning the truck. It is not as if they would not be able to figure out it was his.
Maybe he wanted them to find it but I bet he wasn’t that smart.
That’s my thought. A motorcycle parked a mile away or so. Park the truck, maybe set a timer to an ignition source, walk back to the bike, ride off, and the truck goes up in flames an hour or two later. Good head start. More than enough time to get back to L.A.
