If a ban can't pass the Senate, it certainly won't pass in the House. Consider the assault weapons ban a dead issue, while the ammunition limit is alive and well.
Senate Democratic leaders expect a gun bill to move to the Senate floor that includes most of the proposals backed by President Barack Obama, with the notable exception of a ban on military-style, semiautomatic weapons, a top aide to Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada said.
The bill would likely seek to limit the capacity of ammunition magazines; expand background checks to include sales at gun shows and other private transactions; and require better record keeping to keep guns out of the hands of those with mental illnesses. It would also try to curb gun sales in states with more relaxed gun laws to buyers in states with stricter laws.
But the strategy outline also reflects a growing sense within Democratic ranks that some of the president's most ambitious goals-particularly the call for new bans on certain types of military-style guns often described as assault weapons-may be unrealistic, the Reid aide said.
The goal is to get the bill to the Senate floor next month, at which point lawmakers could then seek to amend the legislation by adding a ban on certain semiautomatic weapons or other provisions, the aide said.
The details provide the first snapshot of how Senate Democrats plan to move forward on major gun legislation in coming weeks...

“The goal is to get the bill to the Senate floor next month...”
It’s probably no coincidence that the U.N. Small Arms Treaty
also comes up for debate in the UN next month.
Hmmm. What did Thomas Jefferson say about eternal vigilance and liberty?
As for magazine size, I use standard sized magazines in my ARs (that would be 30 rounds. This is about as arbitrary as cosmetics of a weapon.
If it safety that we are after, then the government should drop the registration and $200 tax stamp on silencers. That will save a lot of people's hearing.
No. Any power they attempt to exert here should be seen as illigitimate and ignored by the strongest terms possible.
If they send enforcers with illegal orders to enforce their unConstitutional edicts...
Defend your Rights with force.
No!
Go after criminals and the mentally ill!
No he isn't. I corresponded with him two weeks ago. He is a gutless, unprincipled politician (I just left out a few expletives). His reply was, I am paraphrasing, in light of the Newton, CT shootings, he will keep an open mind. He went on to write that he will consider all legislation.
If Toomey was pro 2a then he would write that he would fight to maintain and extend our 2a rights.
Toomey also voted to confirm John F'n Kerry, an American traitor. Toomey has no principles, but worse than that, he doesn't understand that there are over 5 million gun owners in PA that he could appeal by having some principles.
So in my book, he needs an opponent in the next election. He certainly will not get anything out of me but me bad mouthing him. He is now GOPe ... Might as well be dead.
I honestly hadn’t heard a word of that; his aide say he wasn’t voting against 2A, and would block any AWB. He HAD principles when we TP put him in; if he’s gone GOPe, then he needs booting-out. I need to do some serious research instead of taking the aide’s word about him. Thanks for the tip-off.
Thank you for contacting me about gun control. I appreciate hearing from you.
As you may know, January 16, 2013, President Obama announced a variety of gun policy measures in response to the Newtown, CT killings. I therefore value knowing your views on this important issue, which is important to me as I carefully review the President's proposals. Like many Pennsylvanians, I believe that Second Amendment rights are important and must be protected, but there may be areas of agreement with the White House that can be addressed to improve public safety. I also believe that people who use guns in an illegal manner or harm others with them should be punished to the fullest extent of the law.
That said, we have consistently observed that mass killings are the result of serious mental illness. We therefore need to better protect ourselves from mentally ill individuals who seek to carry out such atrocities, including improved background checks. We also need to review and improve how we take care of the mentally ill. As I continue working with my Senate colleagues on both sides of the aisle on public safety, please be assured that I will keep your views about firearms in mind.
Thank you again for your correspondence. Please do not hesitate to contact me in the future if I can be of assistance.
Sincerely,
Pat Toomey
He doesn't get the part of the 2a that says, "shall not be infringed." Plus, confirming John Kerry really shows Toomey's colors. Only a RINO would confirm Kerry. Toomey is a spineless pussy. If he was a man, a patriot, he would be making an argument about expanding 2a rights instead of being on the defensive.

Wow; you’re right. He’s a wet rag on the US Constitution. Maybe I could mail him a functioning brain, pair of balls or a spine.
I always thought Toomey was a Tea Party guy. I guess not.

I think the Tea Party in Pa embraced him because he was so much better than the opposition. To tell you the truth, I am not a Tea Party guy. I am a conservative and always have been. The Tea Party has too many populous tendencies for me.
