Alabama is the most conservative state in the U.S., with roughly 50 percent of its residents identifying their ideology as conservative, trailed closely by North Dakota and Wyoming (both 48.6 percent), according to a recent survey by Gallup.

I'm not going waste my time defending someone else - I've voted for every candidate has put forward, no matter how crappy.
To those who like to pound on their fellow conservatives for not being sufficiently motivated come election time I'll simply say that candidates, as with any commodity, must be sold.
When a company regularly fails at selling its product it doesn't really make sense to blame the customer.
