Illinois Senator Richard Durbins exchange Wednesday with National Rifle Association Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre defined the disconnect anti-gun Democrats have with the reality of so-called universal background checks and why they wont stop criminals from obtaining firearms.
As quoted in the Seattle Times, and shown in this video, Durbin became engaged in a frustrating debate with LaPierre. The NRA executive told the Senate Judiciary Committee that My problem with background checks is that youre never going to get criminals to go through universal background checks.
Youll create an enormous federal bureaucracy, unfunded, hitting all the little people in the country (who) will have to go through it, pay the fees, pay the taxes, LaPierre said.
After LaPierre was cut off by Committee Chairman Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-VT), Sen. Durbin made this observation: Mr. LaPierre, thats the point. The criminals wont go to purchase the guns because there will be a background check. Well stop them from the original purchase. You miss that point completely.
No, it is Durbin who misses the point completely even after LaPierre had explained it at least twice, to both Durbin and Leahy.
Criminals do not get their firearms through regular retail channels, nor do they get them from gun shows or any other legitimate avenue. They would not, as Sen. Durbin and his fellow anti-gun Democrats evidently believe, be discouraged by a universal background check because they dont submit to such checks, anyway.

What they really want is cultural genocide of the gun culture, because it promotes individuality and individual responsibilitly.
They also detest the check on government power that an armed citizenry provides.
The Dems better understand one thing right now. If they push this through, we will not stop until we have 4473 style forms and a NICS check to vote... Mandatory in EVERY election.
They better really think hard on their course of action because they are about to open doors they don’t want opened.
We’re also going to gain legal standing on a few things that they really don’t want touched.
Keep messing with RKBA... watch what happens. It’s not going to be to the liking of our elected representatives.
Dick's really big concern is that somebody is going to report that he's loose from the institution again.
Democrats are plain stupid and there's no fixing that.
I heard that exchange. It was pretty funny, actually.
We have a winner!
it is not about keeping guns out of criminal hands, it is about make work for bureaucrats and raising revenues to sustain it.
This has NOTHING to do with gun control and everything to do with control.
“They also detest the check on government power that an armed citizenry provides.”
Allow me to quote a hero of the totalitarian left, Chairman Mao. Mao said, “political power grows out of the barrel of a gun.” Therefore, if We, the People, exercise our Second Amendment rights, we have political power; if, We, the People, lose our Second Amendment rights(are disarmed as the democrats and some RINOs want)we have no political power. To me, it’s an easy decision which way to go, the Second Amendment is to be defended with blood, if necessary.
They better really think hard on their course of action because they are about to open doors they dont want opened.
They're going to push it through and nothing's going to happen in response. The NRA will raise more money, but it won't make a difference and won't equal what Soros and the rest of the fascist billionaires kick in. Maybe, this will tip a House election or two, but that's it. The GOP is probably going to lose the House at mid-terms anyway.
Don't you get it? We're past the tipping point. The only variable now is the rate of the descent until the country breaks up.
Richard Durbin??? I live in Illinois. This is the first time I remember him referred to anything other than dick.
His counterpart is John McCain on the other side.”
I have met John McCain and observed him closely at public meetings. He is not stupid. Sad to say, I think he is totally invested in the idea that the government must protect us “little people” from ourselves.
It is a hard sell to say this directly, so they have to lie to accomplish it. That is what makes them seem so stupid. The lie is the heart of Regressive politics. Even the term “Progressive” is a lie. Their polices are regressive. They would move us back to a time before the rule of law, back to the rule by individual men, at their whim.
“Richard Durbin??? I live in Illinois. This is the first time I remember him referred to anything other than dick.”
When I lived in ILLinois people used to refer to him as The Dick Durbin.
Let’s look at it this way. Legal drugs go to people who need them for legal, medical reasons, as authorized by prescriptions. Just because a piece of paper is missing does not keep illegal drugs away from criminals, and that won’t keep illegal weapons away from criminals either.
All we’re doing with all this record keeping is creating and maintaining an underground, black market economy going. It’s escaping the tax man, and it’s creating kingpins that are so powerful they can escape the most intense government efforts at prosecution, to the point that they ultimately get in bed with the government. The ultimate result is that certain individuals within the government will become corrupt due to the large amounts of money involved, and they, in turn, will influence others to vote to eliminate the freedoms of the people.
To figure out what will happen in all of these highly emotional issues, one must only get to the fundamental basic of the issues:
FOLLOW THE MONEY
Hand him a bill calling for drug lords and gang bangers to run background checks on new recruits, before arming them.
Its not just about taking away all our guns. Look at their comments and bills the gun grabbers are sponsoring. They’re littered with gun registration fees, background check fees, ammunition taxes, gun registration taxes, conceal/carry license fees and more.
I’m telling you they aren’t really interested in taking our guns away,at least at first. The democrats want what they’ve always wanted first and foremost, money. They look at gun ownership as a revenue stream ripe for their picking.
Their plan is to make you and I be glad that they’re not taking away our guns and happy to pay all their fees and taxes to the government coffers.
Then when they get away with it,their plans are to tax us for exercising our other constitutional rights.
That’s their master plan, I can see it from miles away.
Lol!!! Same here, although I express my disdain for him by calling him Dick(head) Durbin.
They are, by a good definition, “liberal reactionaries”.
They have long had rigid theories about what they believe to be true. But these theories have been tried over and over again, and have *always* failed. This results is a bizarre frame of mind.
1) False nostalgia that somewhere, sometime in the past they were tried, somewhere, and worked. They do not examine this in any depth, because it collapses, unless they are so ideologically fanatical that they see an entirely different reality from other people. And some of them actually do.
Even at the bitter end of the Soviet Union, when everything was decayed and falling apart, the Soviet Intourist travel agency was still taking American communists on tours, of horribly polluted and decrepit communist projects, and all the tourists could *see* were “unicorns and rainbows”. They were *that* deluded. And they all spewed a constant stream of ideologically pure dialectic at their travel agents, many of whom would play along, even though they could at least see the truth.
2) An almost psychotic view of present reality. If you hook someone like Chris Matthews up to a lie detector, and peppered him with outrageous questions about the way things are today, he would likely register “true”, in believing things that are patently false. He truly believes that Republicans are fascist, neo-Nazis with a sense of deep racist hatred of black people. And likely that Obama is Jesus come again. They are *that* deluded.
Trying to argue with a person like that is like the frustrating experience of talking to someone who is genuinely insane. “The lights are on but nobody is home.” There *is* no rationality there.
When you point out that what is being done is failing, they will say either, “That is because it is under-funded”, “Because it is being sabotaged by those opposed to it”, or “It will only work when it is universal, and no other system is allowed to compete with it.”
3) Bizarre ideas about the future. And this is the weirdest part of all. They lack any sort of pattern recognition. They can hit themselves on the hand, hard, with a claw hammer a dozen times; but will not recognize their increasing injury. They can grasp that other people are horrified by what they are doing, so they will blatantly lie to try and fool them.
“No, I have never hit myself on the hand with a claw hammer. But if I did, it wouldn’t hurt. It would be good for me. So everybody must hit themselves on the hand with a claw hammer. The government must make them.”
So the bottom line is that, with a senile philosophy, liberals are reduced to being reactionaries. Psychopaths about the harm they will cause, feeling no empathy to others. But convinced beyond doubt that if people just do what they say, *everything* will be “good”.
Exposing Elitist Politicians who want to destroy our Constitution and this nation as founded. Scroll down below photo and watch video of testimony:
“I do not believe that Durbin and other anti-freedom people are this stupid....”
Wrong. People are “liberal” (er, now “progressive”) exactly because ideology and the things they want to believe are true trump any logic or point of fact, even a fact that stubbornly repeats itself.
When pressed further, the next phase of how a liberal relates to stubborn facts is one of several techniques: to dodge, that is to attempt to physically escape; to attempt to change the subject; or to launch into a personal attack against the person who keeps bringing this fact up.
