These people who are being laid off are getting exactly what they (and their neighbors) voted for. Twice. I am not a leftist, and I am not happy, but I do enjoy the rich irony inherent in this announcement. I hope someone takes out a newspaper ad and points this out to them.

Department of Education....close that affirmative action hiring haven and save on 5,000 salaries. Close EPA and that saves 14,000 bloated salaries

Sure. Defense workers lean right. So the Leftists have no trouble cutting them. And all to often, Republicans go along. All during the 1990s when Defense was being cut and consolidated, I said over and over that the Right was shooting itself in the foot.

Learn from the Democrat party base how to game the system, and grab whatever you can from government before the parasites gobble it all up. I understand SSDI is a popular and easy scam these days. You haven't "twisted your back" lately, have you? Of course, I think you can get on the SSDI gravy train just by being an alcoholic or a junkie. Or even just by being "depressed"! Anyway, good luck.
Frankly, they give more value to the country for their time then most of the lard asses which infest the other agencies.
How about cutting EBT cards 20% for the slugs and parasites who never show up for any meaningful work? Maybe we can do the same for ALL government employees while we're at it.

I expect to be one of those furloughed for 22 days over the next 22 weeks. Will tighten things up, but will also allow me to “test” what retirement will feel like as I spend the day with my wife who will retire soon...It will be interesting to see how this works - our area is pretty much a mad house each day and I have been working (voluntarily) about 12 extra hours a week to make ends meet. Won’t do that any more, so things are likely to start eroding.
Makes me feel bad for the military who will be asked to take up the slack - our area is about 60/40 military/civilian and there's lots going on - bound to destroy the last vestiges of morale. Since we've been undermanned to boot, we will be braking a number of rules about how many instructors are available - going to be paperwork nightmare for the commander to sign all the individual waivers.
