Romulus ...sad to say

This site has further degenerated into the stupid

Were women so effing great at combat it would have been so for all recorded history since Lagash versus Umma

Idiots laughing about this much like those implementing it do not take war seriously

Cause most aren’t fighting it

Womens lib in the modern era is mostly the product of liberal pissed off bored Jewish women in urban areas who often came from socialist families

Red diaper babies as Horowitz coined it

Think any of them ever served?

Hell they loathe the military

Friedan...Steinhem....Wolfe....Jong.....Faludi....Dworkin....etc

First one dead in combat and all hell will break loose. Hearings will happen, heads will roll, good men will lose their jobs.

This is the dumbest idea since New Coke.

Instead of criticizing Panetta, you turn your vitriol against the young women?

How conservative—to hope other people “enjoy” crimes committed against them.

“Frankly, I don’t care anymore. Let them go. Let them get shot at and die like men. That’s what they demand, give it to them.”

Really? Where did most women demand this? Or most women in the military?

Women who did not demand this and women who actively opposed this will likely die if Congress approves of this plan.

And you’re willing to throw in the towel and show a singular lack of regard for all the women involved because of the beliefs and desires of a minority.

You are a minority..if you believe you, or a small group of like minded people, can influence this current admin...or any of the insanity going on.
Remember when we thought obamacare was dead..did we stop tarp/stimulus?

I think you both missed my point that the idea that women are these awesome mad killing machines is fantasy, worthy of movies with cool soundtracks.

My entire point was that it's not realistic.

Should be an interesting reaction to see the first female that has to hump an 81 mm baseplate strapped to her pack for 20 miles....

This is meant by 0bama to get the country to hate the military...not just the Fiat and Volvo drivers, but the rest of the country.

Here is a link to a very well written article on the issue of fraternization. The point is that no level of military code or discipline can stop human nature. Put members of the opposite sex together in any organization and there’s going to be fraternization. Put them in situations where they are away from their spouses, facing constant danger or long stretches of boredom, and human nature will trump discipline. The most intriguing part of the article is to Tito’s strict policy against fraternization in his Yugoslav army during the war, where the penalty was death. There were apparently dozens of his troops executed for this offense. If people are willing to risk death in exchange for some human affection in a war zone, then lesser punishment is not going to have a major effect.

I beg your pardon but plenty of women in uniform have indeed asked for this precisely

And plenty haven't. And the level of denigration that I perceive to be directed at our servicewomen here is sad.

It is Leon Panetta and the Joint Chiefs of Staff that should be called to account for this action.

Comments about dykes, decorating foxholes, getting "done" in foxholes, and dying like men do not help the argument, imho.

Not very many, I think four and only one was enlisted. All this will do is push more women into the Navy and Air Force. Everyone in uniform knows that regardless of your job or branch that you have a bullseyes painted on your back.

I could attest that women don't really hold up in stressful environments and I have never been in a combat situation. I have seen female supervisors break down and cry. All the bravado is from pilots or officer types.

I think it’ll ultimately be a wash, because few women will volunteer from infantry front-line duty. However... for those who do, not a single standard should be lowered in training to ease the path for them. Whatever their male counterparts must accomplish, so must they.

Won't happen. Based on current male standards few females would be on active duty. They could run and all but loaded down with equipment, nah.

They will just change the regs to accomodate women. Now stretchers are a four person job because two women can't lift a stretcher with an average sized guy and if they could they would not get very far.

They will forecit. It will fail and they will change the regs againg. Happens all the time.

Agree, xzins. This will destroy the warrior culture of our military. This president is determined to destroy all that is good, honorable, great about our country. My heart hurts for America and what he is doing.

Repubs need to wake up and realize obama is their and America’s enemy. Who gives a crap about polls, whether they can get reelected in two years......they need to realize the time is now to stop him.

What’s left on the insanity list? I think they’ve checked off every box.

Oh, noooooo....there is plenty more insanity out there......he's just getting started. He's likely stacking the deck right now with this craziness to totally overwhelm the opposition, but he has more destruction planned for America.

Who will stop it?

Thus, getting more people maimed and killed in the fire zone. Not that it matters to liberals.... the more dead military members the better, as far as they’re concerned.

And that, unfortunately, is **EXACTLY** the problem.

The primary legal ground for drafting only men rather than both men and women is the combat exclusion. Eliminate the combat exclusion and the Supreme Court will probably have no way to avoid declaring the Selective Service system unconstitutional.

That's merely a formality today. There may be a day it is not a formality at all.

I'm afraid this is going to come back and bite big time in ways that the women who want a combat MOS never expected.

It's one thing to let women volunteer for something (leaving aside the question of whether or not they can do it without lowering the standards). It is a very different thing to start drafting women.
