Japan's new government is barely a month old, and already one of its most senior members has insulted tens of millions of voters by suggesting that the elderly are an unnecessary drain on the country's finances.
Taro Aso, the finance minister, said on Monday that the elderly should be allowed to "hurry up and die" to relieve pressure on the state to pay for their medical care.
"Heaven forbid if you are forced to live on when you want to die. I would wake up feeling increasingly bad knowing that [treatment] was all being paid for by the government," he said during a meeting of the national council on social security reforms. "The problem won't be solved unless you let them hurry up and die."
To compound the insult, he referred to elderly patients who are no longer able to feed themselves as "tube people".
In 2008, while serving as prime minister, he described "doddering" pensioners as tax burdens who should take better care of their health.

Old people should die and small children are sex objects (kiddie porn possession still legal in Tokyo)
What a crazy country
This callous disregard for the most vulnerable among us — babies in the womb, special needs people and the elderly — is an increasingly disturbing trend across cultures. It’s easy to understand how Christ in His time was vilified and crucified when we witness people take the sacred out of humanity and life.
maybe some elderly but still capable Japanese man should take this guy out.
someone should help him hurry up and die
This is the ultimate cost-saving measure in Socialist systems. Give everything to the people for free and if it costs too much, start getting rid of the people through abortions and euthanasia. Once Obamacare kicks into full gear, there will be plenty of government bureaucrats who want elderly Americans to hurry up and die.
When the government is paying the bill this is inevitable, which is one of the many reasons why I fought so hard against Obamacare.
It is a profound mistake for the elderly to believe that there is such a thing as any form of free lunch from the government in the first place. And only someone very foolish indeed should be surprised that when the government buys him lunch, it is not eager to increase its expenses on his behalf, and thus, is not willing to buy him a steak for lunch.
I suppose the Greatest Generation is a bit old for the job, but a lot of Baby Boomers never bought into Liberal worldview. They didn't dance in the mud at Woodstock. They didn't take the drugs, or join yoga retreats. Hard-working people who have finished raising their family, people who love this country, people looking at "golden years" that may not be so golden, and who are being demonized as "too expensive" to keep alive.
The day may come when having gray hair is enough to get yourself put on a terrorist watch list. Our masters may be picking a fight with people who are not afraid to die.
“What a crazy country”
We are only a fraction of time behind them....
yeppers
Hey, I’ve seen people right here on FR basically say the same thing.
I think the whole point of this thread is how wrong it is to view death as a solution to problems. Death IS the problem.
Coming soon to a government near you...
The longer he lingers, the more he’s using up his kids’ inheritance. Where’s his heart? Talk about selfish.
unfortunately for most of us that inheritance comes from the Federal Government in the form of a bill saying we owe something like 150k.
I am soon to turn 51 and tired of paying others bills. At the rate it is going I will never be able to save what I should have tucked away for my retirement. Coming soon, the Brains in the Federal Government will tell me that I am lucky to have such good health therefore I need to work until I am 70 because they misplaced the money I sent them for the past 36 years....
They need to increase the retirement age to get the average life expectancy closer to that date. So less people will be drawing from it and dieing before they can draw SSI. meanwhile Bronco Bama signed up an extra 8 Million on SSI disability over the last 4 years.
I think you’re right,I found it doubly shocking to hear it come out of Japan.
Will this be followed by a “so-sorry” — or by seppuku?
Elderly Japanese respond, “Hey, Aso!”
