Notre Dame's Manti Te'o, the stories said, played this season under a terrible burden. A Mormon linebacker who led his Catholic school's football program back to glory, Te'o was whipsawed between personal tragedies along the way. In the span of six hours in September, as Sports Illustrated told it, Te'o learned first of the death of his grandmother, Annette Santiago, and then of the death of his girlfriend, Lennay Kekua.
Kekua, 22 years old, had been in a serious car accident in California, and then had been diagnosed with leukemia. SI's Pete Thamel described how Te'o would phone her in her hospital room and stay on the line with her as he slept through the night. "Her relatives told him that at her lowest points, as she fought to emerge from a coma, her breathing rate would increase at the sound of his voice," Thamel wrote.
Upon receiving the news of the two deaths, Te'o went out and led the Fighting Irish to a 20-3 upset of Michigan State, racking up 12 tackles. It was heartbreaking and inspirational. Te'o would appear on ESPN's College GameDay to talk about the letters Kekua had written him during her illness. He would send a heartfelt letter to the parents of a sick child, discussing his experience with disease and grief. The South Bend Tribune wrote an article describing the young couple's fairytale meetingshe, a Stanford student; he, a Notre Dame starafter a football game outside Palo Alto.
Did you enjoy the uplifiting story, the tale of a man who responded to adversity by becoming one of the top players of the game? If so, stop reading.

Here is the original fairy tale story of Manti meeting this girl.
How is it even possible that sports journalists across the world were reporting on the first story for weeks and not one person verify it? No one looked for her obit? No one tried to reach out to her family? No one tried to get a comment from her friends?
Maybe it’s just me not being able to take it, but the fact that ESPN, SI, CNN, and every other group that covered the first story didn’t see any signs. But a couple no name weirdos from Deadspin peiced it all together. Just doesn’t make logical sense.
Was thinking that, as in what would be even worse would be if.....
The Tide rolled his ass too!
MANTI TE'O SPEAKS: 'I Was The Victim,' The Dead Girlfriend Hoax Was A 'Sick Joke'
-Roll Tide-
Where did he send the white roses? Does he have a receipt? Where are the letters she sent him? Where are the photos of them together? No snapshots in Hawaii via cell phone?
Uh huh.
Really glad Johnny Football won the Heisman!
The only explanations that make sense are either that this was done to facilitate a compelling Heisman backstory, or to cover up the real relationship he was having with the male accomplice in this hoax. Or both.
The story of the fake girlfriend's equally fake sister makes his version of events very hard to accept.
“This fishy tale just reeks of homosex.”
My ex-BIL is closet flamer, poet, eclectic type. He’d never had an interest in a woman ever. Away at college he concocted a story about a passionate romance with a woman who later died then he wrote poetry about it.
He pitched the story to his parents to remove suspicion of his Pooftness (they swallowed it hook/line/sinker) and used it as the reason he was never again interested in women...his life’s true love being dead and all.
When I first heard this story I thought to myself, “Boy I wish his girlfriend never died.” Looks like my wish came true!
This story is too weird. He’s in the NFL draft?
Ping!
Why not? The media was fed a narrative that met with their preconceptions and self interest, and so they reported it without a second thought and without any fact checking. It happens every day in the political world, and proves the point that 99% of journalists are too lazy and intellectually vacant to set aside their personal beliefs and report the actual facts.
Here’s your simple guide to understanding mass media. It’s all a lie. All of it, the entertainment programming, the commercials, the sports, the reality programming, and the news. Especially the news.
The first time I saw a report on this guy, the first thing that popped into my head after about 30 secs or so was “three dollar bill”.
I got the joke, but Manti Teo isn’t Hawaiian. Neither is Obama.
Does he prefer tight ends or wide receivers?
I liked it even though I am an Auburn fan. I have two grown sons who are avid Bama fans. My oldest son played high school football with 4 that played for Alabama. They were all good kids. Also, for a year we lived two doors down from Roman Harper, who now plays for the Saints. He and his brother Ronnie were both good kids. So, unlike some, I am not for Auburn and whoever is playing against Alabama.
In regard to Te’o, I am just sick and tired of getting up every morning and reading and hearing absolute fairy tales put out by the media. Are they ALL libtard robots? Can any of them think critically anymore? Can they not apply simple logic? Do they not even make a passing attempt to determine facts?
