Oprah Winfrey 'surprised and mesmerized' by Lance Armstrong's confession

Oprah Winfrey revealed today she was surprised and mesmerized by some of Lance Armstrong's answers in the wake of her grueling two-hour interview with the shamed cyclist, in which he finally admitted using illegal performance-enhancing drugs.

Speaking to CBS this morning about the 'intense and emotional' interview that took place in Austin yesterday, she said: 'He did not come clean in the manner I expected, I was surprised. Myself and the whole team were mesmerized and riveted by some of his answers.

'I think he answered my questions satisfactorily. He was thoughtful and serious and had prepared himself for this moment and at the end of it we were both pretty exhausted.

'I had a strategy and I went in prepared to have to dig and pull but he was very forthcoming with his answers.'

It was also revealed today that Armstrong hinted to the fact the use of drugs within the sport is widespread in a meeting with the head of the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency last month.

Armstrong is said to have spoken openly to Travis Tygart about doping, claiming it was rampant in all sports, especially NBA football, and that he was being singled out for punishment.

Sources said that at the end of the meeting, during which Tygart refused to soften Armstrong's lifetime ban for what the agency called the 'most sophisticated doping program on the planet', he told him: 'You don't hold the keys to my redemption.

'There's one person who holds the keys to my redemption and that's me,' the source told the Wall Street Journal.

I wonder if he thinks losing the left one was worth it?

A person goes on Oprah to make an announcement like this for only one reason - to garner sympathy.

I could not stand him from day one. People on here would be in some dreamy stance when discussing him and I would say “He sucks” and of course get blasted by the FREEPER Fans of Lance. But I stood firm and was right. I love it when that happens!

I'm wondering if he didn't lose it deliberately, or at all. Having to replace testosterone might give one a valid excuse for having steroids in the system.

Oprah Winfrey 'surprised and mesmerized' . . .

WTF? Lance Armstrong is merely a fake athlete whereas Oprah helped sell us a fake president.

I think this was his "come clean" moment with an eye toward a career in politics after laying low for a while. (Maybe he got some sound advice from Clinton)

Ok - all better. He visited the high-priestess of the left. For penance he has cry at least three more times in public.

I still like Armstrong. All things said and done, one doesn’t become home run king via steroids unless one can already hit the ball at a professional level. It doesn’t change the average next door neighbor into an all pro baseball player.

Applying that to Armstrong, he was a heck of a biker without the steroids.

I believe it was Dennis Miller, though, who spoke the truth. He said something along the line of “The French are pissed because Armstrong beat them at their own doping game.”

IOW, the Europeans weren’t performing at that Mt Everest levels without assistance, and they got hacked because someone came along and did even that better than them.

Do I believe Armstrong that doping is rampant in all pro sports? Probably do. If Armstrong could avoid the detectors for years and years EVEN THOUGH they were hot after him at every turn, then I’m fairly certain that multi-millionaire pro atheletes in the USA can do the same.

What does all this do for Armstrong? I’d say its just marketing. Keeps his name in the news and now he’s a candidate to push some kind of negative product. Maybe they’ll have him do commercials for Colorado Smoking Lounges.

Who knows?

I was once on his side, but now Fug him.

He won’t get sympathy from me, the only thing he will get is a KMA.

I hope they ban him from all sports for life. I hope they make it against the law to sell this CS a bicycle.

It may be a "tour the courtroom" book.

There is even discussion now of a class action lawsuit against him by all of those whose careers he destroyed by his heavy handed slander.

Hmmm. This could be fun to watch.

I used to have a lot of respect for LA in spite of his arrogance, because I thought he was for real.

Now? Not so much respect. He ran up a tab full of hypocrisy, arrogance and lying. And now the bill has come due.
