Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah Healy spoke to CNN’s Christiane Amanpour yesterday about gun control, saying illicit guns are a “national plague that requires a national cure.”
Healy stressed that the city doesn’t “want to take guns from hunters,” adding that his problem is with assault rifles and weapons that hold clips of 30 or more rounds of ammunition.
“No hunter, no collector, no target shooter has any reason to have those weapons,” the mayor told Amanpour. “They were all banned up until about eight years ago. The bans expired. We’d like to get them back in place.”
Healy touted the city's recent gun buy-back, which led to 164 guns being taken off the streets, and he also chided Amanpour for saying Jersey City has a "high" homicide rate.

Here in NJ the mayors of the welfare reservations are upset because when the unassimilated minorities made enough noise about “racial profiling” the state troopers stopped pulling any of them over. All of the guns and drugs the troopers had been stopping on their way up to the northern cities immediately starting flowing through, and within weeks of the “standing down” all of NJ’s cities saw spikes in drug/gun crimes.
Too bad; be careful what you wish for.
Sorry, Mr. Mayor, but the problem in Jersey City is a lack of backbone in your office and in the police department to crack down on the gangs that invest your city.

The whole county is like that (my town included). Jersey City’s one ray of hope is that in stark contrast to Newark, they’re gentrifying their underclass out of the area.
There is no “plague” of guns, but in some cities there is a plague of killers; that’s a social disease, not a disease of legal gun ownership.
If legal gun ownership was the “plague” the gun control advocates claim it is, then given the rate of legal gun ownership in the country the murder-by-gun rate would be 1,000s of times higher than it is and every single city in the country would have astronomical murder rates. That’s not what happens because the super-vast majority of legal gun owners do not go out and murder anyone.
Big city mayors with high murder rates need to work on cleaning up their own social swamp that helps create killers and quit using legal gun ownership as the excuse for their own cities problems.
yet, its not our society that is violent, that seeks violence...its the metal machine called a gun.....
