Glenn Beck Relaunching The Blaze As Global Libertarian News Network

Glenn Beck announced plans Tuesday during his online television program to expand the news operation in his media company, The Blaze, and refocus it as a libertarian network, opening three foreign bureaus, debuting a nightly newsmagazine show, and relocating his New York staff to showy new offices. Beck introduced his ambitious plans by standing in front of a split screen with MSNBC´s Chris Matthews on one side and Fox News´s Sean Hannity on the other, and bemoaning the fact that cable news has devolved into the "far left [and] far right... yelling at each other." "We´re not gonna play

I firmly believe that Beck has made a MAJOR mistake in calling his network "Global Libertarian News".

"Libertarian" in the title is putting him in a type-cast, restrictive box that he will truly regret being in later on down the road.

As an aside, the word "global" doesn't resonate too well with conservatives, either. As a conservative, I tend to view things in the light of the word "American" rather than "global".

Beck is "evolving" into dumb, dumber, dumbest.

No.

There is one critical difference between my positions on trade, and the socialists you refer to.

It is a biggie though:

Keep the jobs in America.

Seems pretty simple. Do not outsource any jobs. Do the jobs in Texas, or California. In Kansas, New Jersey, Washington.

In New Mexico. Minnesota. Alaska. Delaware. South Carolina.

Do the jobs in Nebraska. Or in Colorado.

There are almost limitless possibilities. But we must decide on one thing:

The time to outsource is over.

BRING. BACK. AMERICAN. JOBS.

No, you are arguing exactly the same thing that the far left "progressives" do. They DON'T want competition from other countries. You DON'T want competition from other countries. You have the same position as Bernie Sanders, Ed Schultz, etc.

The world is globalized and that has been a boon for consumers. We can compete with the rest of the world just fine, all we need to do is keep our competitive edge. You'll note that right-to-work states are doing MUCH better than union states. In some cases right-to-work states are booming while the unionized rust belt loses population and falls into economic decline.

Unions are going to have to change into something entirely different if they want to remain relevant. All they are right now are corrupt, bloated left wing interest groups that well run States and companies that want to compete avoid like the plague.

BRING. BACK. AMERICAN. JOBS

What you really mean is KEEP FOREIGN COMPETITION OUT. You do realize that if American companies can't produce things in India with Indian workers, some other countries corporations will. And those corporations will still try to sell those products here in the US market, and your answer to that is 100% tariffs to prevent US made products from having to compete. Like I said, were it up to you we would still be stuck with unreliable, big 3 automaker garbage.

Leftists hate competition. Conservatives thrive on it.

Russell Kirk on libertarians circa 1981:

http://www.mmisi.org/ma/25_04/kirk.pdf

“The ruinous failing of the ideologues who call themselves libertarians is their fanatic attachment to a single solitary principle- that is, to the notion of personal freedom as the whole end of the civil social order, and indeed of human existence. The libertarians are oldfangled folk, in the sense that they live by abstractions of the 19th century. They carry to absurdity the doctrines of John Stuart Mill (before Mill’s wife converted him to socialism, that is)...”

So I'm really worried here people that beck is going the wrong direction and will lose me or he no longer relevant and he will be in trouble because he will lose his main base of support for years.

I agree. I still can't stand Beck's giggly, silly radio show, and I still haven't gotten around to purchasing a Roku (or whatever device) so I can watch his TV show. The last Glenn Beck TV show I saw was his last one on Fox News.

If he's trying to bring about a stronger Libertarian movement in order to run third party candidates more successfully, we'll end up with democRATs in the White House and in Congress for decades. Just look at what happened to Mia Love in Utah in November. She lost a winnable election because the Republican vote was split by some Libertarian idiot. I'm still in mourning over that election...

Third party = music to the 'RATs' ears.

Excellent post in #101, Leni... I totally agree.

I used to be a huge Glenn Beck fan when he had his Fox News TV show. He gets stranger and stranger to me as the years go on...

Watch - the "Global Libertarian News" (what a sickening name) - will last for a few months, maybe a year, then Glenn will latch onto something else, and the name will change again. He's starting to come off as a real loser...

“I firmly believe that Beck has made a MAJOR mistake in calling his network “Global Libertarian News”.

I totally agree. What a lousy name to choose for his new network. I immediately don’t want to watch it. Why did Fox Business Cable News take Judge Napolitano’s show off the air almost as soon as it began. Because he was so hardcore Libertarian on it that no one wanted to listen to him. Same will happen with Beck.

Beck is new at this Libertarian thing. He didn’t start out as one. I think his friend Penn (from Penn and Teller) worked on him. Beck of all people should shun the total Libertarian philosophy. Where Libertarians can suck some people in is when they espouse the good side of their philosophy, the fiscally conservative side, without emphasizing the bad side of their belief system, the anything goes attitude on social issues.

Beck, of all people, should have nothing to do with that social issue side as he is a recovering alcoholic. Now how do you reconcile that with legalizing all drugs as Libertarians advocate, when he knows what the rotten social ramifications of such deletorious behavior is. Drugs almost ruined his life.

Plus Beck is ostensibly religious (Mormon), and so many Libertarians are agnostic or atheists. Plus Libertarians believe in gay marriage, most believe in abortion on demand, and I can’t see how Beck can justify his calling himself a Libertarian unless his own personal religious beliefs are so weak or nonexistent as to make the hypocrisy of his Libertarianism possible in his own mind.

I think Beck latches on to anything new, new religion, new philosophy, whatever, because it’ like a shiny new object to play with, and when he gets tired of it, it will be on to the next toy. He does that business-wise too, which has actually worked for him so far; he is an ambitious lad. When I used to watch his program on Fox, I would see his mind buzzing along, and he would suck new concepts in faster than a Hoover vacuum. This can be a good thing, and sometimes a bad thing.

I hope Glenn pauses long enough to figure out what he is really all about when it comes to a personal belief system, and doesn’t get led down the primrose path of a pure Libertarian philosophy, both sides of it, not just the fiscal/financial side of it. It is not an honest belief system when it comes to social issues, IMO. Just watch John Stossel on Fox when he gets pinned to the wall by interviewers of him about his Libertarian social beliefs, and watch him squirm to try to justify them. He dissembles, outright lies, evades the questions, and otherwise cannot defend himself when it comes to the more ridiculous aspects of Libertarianism.

One last thing, Beck claims to be so pro-Israel. Well how can he reconcile any defense of Israel, or potential necessary war with Iran over their nuclear program, as a Libertarian. Libertarians don’t believe in foreign intervention. I like Beck in general, but I don’t like the hypocrisy of his newly found beliefs. Get off the Libertarian wagon Glenn and just become a good old honest conservative which is where you really belong. You are just weakening your network’s power by choosing a minority party that never gets anywhere in elections to champion. I’m turned off, that’s for sure.

P.S., the addition of the word “global” nauseates me. I never want to hear that word again. It’s been ruined by the far left socialist/commie/pinko’s that have infested our gov’t, as they try to mimick the rest of the socialists living on the other side of the pond. Almost as bad as New Gingrich using the word “planet” when speaking of world matters. Make it a little more local, Glen and Newt. Bring it all a bit closer to home.

“I sorrow not for the end of my time on the planet but only at seeing the demise of the wonderful country which has given so many so much.”

Your comment is beautifully put, and sums up the definition of a conservative to a tee. Bravo, your analysis struck a strong sympathetic nerve in me. I agree with you wholeheartedly. Well put.
