A candlelight vigil was held in Boulder Sunday evening for an elk that was shot by a police officer last Tuesday.
The vigil was held on Mountain View Road near where the incident occurred. Some residents say the elk was considered a friend and even a guardian. They created a memorial at a tree in the area.
Two police officers who were involved in the incident have been placed on administrative leave while the Boulder Police Department investigates.

Several neighbors told CBS4 they feel there was no reason to kill the animal, and they are encouraging others to complain about what happened.
He was just a majestic being and its so sad that it came down to this, its heartbreaking, neighbor Jennifer Centeno said.
Mark Rourke, a postal carrier who delivers mail to the Mapleton Hill neighborhood, told CBS4 the elk had been seen in the neighborhood over the past week or two, and that although it once cornered him on a porch, it didnt deserve to die.
I think it was just being defensive. I scared it when I walked through the gate, he said. It makes me sick, it just makes me sick. It was a beautiful animal.
One person at the vigil called the elk a wonderful visitor to the neighborhood and he truly loved the elk.
I cried; outraged; I lost a very dear friend, resident Marcus OBryon said. I know thats hard for some people to believe, but he was an incredible, magnificent creature.

I bet this overgrown boy voted for Hillary.
And sits down to pee.
You know, that’s an excellent point. It did cross that the picture showed people sitting on green grass in Colorado in January. How in the world...
Was there a “vigil” of, say, three kooks, but the media just happen to use this picture?
Do a quick google on elk attacks. A rutting bull is a dangerous animal as is a cow with calf, they don’t play well with humans. They have killed bears, wolves, livestock and other elk a little old human ain’t nothing. Wild animals are not pets.
My bet is the picture they used is from Aurora or linked to it in some manner.

Seems they have now pulled that picture from the link.
The idiocy of this is beyond logic. Do any of them realize after sitting there for 30 minutes (or however long this goat-rodeo went on), “I’m sitting here for a FReeping elk?!?”
I guarantee that the majority of those pictured at the link (not the fake photo posted here) are “pro-choice” and have no problem with babies in the womb being murdered but here they are, participating in a vigil for an animal being shot (not that I condone what the cops did). Talk about screwed-up values.
Not sure where that image came from, doesn’t match the link.
I’m a block away, have 3 inches of snow in my yard, and there’s no way in he11 anyone’s in shirt sleeves.
That was the picture they origionaly post, I made a post on their website and for some reason it’s now gone.
And now they shut down the comment section.
It can; with the right Merlot...
LOLOLMAO! You devil...
We have the local PD put down about one injured deer per week in our little town. City crews come and get the carcass. A retired city worker told me that every one of the deer is split between other workers.
Obama voters in a nutshell.
Look at all the pollution and global warming going on there, and they’re sufffocating gaia’s grass. Heretics!
Either way, I’d rather have them shooting elk than someone’s family pet.
These people are insane.
You're right. I can't believe I didn't notice that. It also says "The vigil was held on Mountain View Road near where the incident occurred." The pic looks like it was on the CU campus which is about a mile away.
