Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., said that she and other gun control advocates are considering a law that would create a program to purchase weapons from gun owners, a proposal that could be compulsory.
We are also looking at a buy-back program, Feinstein said today in a press conference. Now, again, this is a work in progress so these are ideas in the development.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo, D-N.Y., already discussed the possibility of a buy-back law for his state, but he made clear it would be a forced buyback.
Confiscation could be an option, Cuomo told The New York Times yesterday when discussing semiautomatic weapons. Mandatory sale to the state could be an option. Permitting could be an option keep your gun but permit it.
Australia implemented a mandatory buyback program in 1996 following a mass shooting. The law banned semiautomatic and automatic rifles and shotguns and put in place a mandatory buy-back program for newly banned weapons, USA Today recalls. The buyback led to the destruction of 650,000 gun.
Some liberal activists want the policy imitated here. That would be like destroying 50 million guns in America today, the Center for American Progress Matt Miller wrote after noting that Australia eliminated 20 percent of the weapons in the country. The Australian outlaw and repurchase option is one approach. But if Congress balks at banning certain weapons entirely, it could make gun owners an offer they cant refuse. Instead of $200 a gun, Uncle Sam might offer $500.
Feinstein also said that that former President Bill Clinton had volunteered, on a phone call, to help her get a new gun law passed.
[Clinton] was talking about the battle back in 1993 with the bill that, interestingly enough, was introduced and passed within the year fo 1993 and went into effect in 1994, she said. And, of course, he was president and the White House came alive and was very very helpful in enabling the passage of that bill both in the senate and in the House. So, to have him part of the team again is really quote special for us.
Credit cards? Funny, you can buy firearms-related goods with credit cards? Who knew? I always paid cash. Or cash. Or, on the other hand, cash. No checks, no Visa.
The lady is a complete idiot!
The words of Tench Coxe...
Congress have no power to disarm
the militia. Their swords,
and every other terrible implement of the soldier,
are the birth-right of an American
the unlimited power of the sword is not in
the hands of either the federal or state governments,
but, where I trust in God
it will ever remain, in the hands of the people.
It should be an axiom of American government that we never take a foreign socialist nation as our example, even if we share a common language. As for our own nation, if these measures pass, it will be time to make a new one.
I live in Illinois but before I quit smoking about 5 years ago, bought all my cigarettes in Missouri, where the tax makes them much cheaper. I was warned by a store clerk, that I'd better pay cash as Visa, M.C. and AMEX were reporting Illinois residents to Illinois Revenue all tobacco and liquor purchases.
About 10 years ago, I received a form at tax time from Illinois, wanting me to voluntarily report all of my out of state purchases of those products, I filed it in the round file and never heard any more about it.
Big brother is definitely watching.

DiFi was around then, and remembers what happened to Jack Brooks of Texas after Slick Willie pleaded and pleaded and armtwisted to get the Midnight Basketball and Gun-Ban Bill out of Brooks's committee .... just letting it sort of slide out w/o any fingerprints, to reduce the political risk.
Brooks's constituents pounded so much sand up his ass, it was still coming out his nose when he died.
As another Democrat once noticed long ago ...... when the Clintons need you, they're really there for you.
Ask Jack Brooks. And while you're at it, ask Bart Stupak and all the rest of the "moderate" Democrats who got used by Pelosi and Reid and The _Resident. Burned up like cigarettes, to get their bills through. Think about that, DiFi.
Back then, there were signs at the Mississippi river crossings, on the Illinois side that all Illinois residents were required to report out of state purchases of tobacco and liquor products, a sign that was hugely ignored. It’s no longer even there.

Merry Christmas!
And did you also notice the almost complete absence of any optics?
Hmmmmm.
Dems must be getting low on arms for the F&F program.
Don’t think for a minute that if you didn’t use a Credit Card to make a purchase you are off the hook. Did you ever go to a shooting range? Did you ever voice your opinion on FR? Did you ever email your friends about the dastardly deeds of our POTUS or that B-in-a-ditch Pelosi? Did you ever attend a Tea Party rally? Are you a veteran? Are you anti-abortion? They know who your are and they have a file on you.
Very good point.
Very good point. Maybe it’s time to get papers for yourself as Juan Rivera, or something similar.
Trivia question....Why do Australians pour oil on their lawns...
....to lubricate their guns.
That's why they are staffing up Homeland Security and buying lots of ammo.
I have NEVER used a credit card for any purchase that might concern the thugs in our White House or in Congress. I am a member of the NRA and of a local gun club, but that doesn't tell anything about number of caliber. BTW, I own a bolt action .22LR rifle that I will regretfully sell for $500 at gunpoint only. If they want anything else, they can start with my ammo. The discussion will not be friendly.
I just use the old gun safe for keeping personal records. It's fireproof, you know.
