Police in Alexandria, Va., said Sunday that the Idaho Republican was pulled over after his vehicle ran a red light. Police spokesman Jody Donaldson said Crapo failed field sobriety tests and was arrested at about 12:45 a.m. He was transported to the Alexandria jail and released on an unsecured $1,000 bond at about 5 a.m....
Police said Crapo, who was alone in his vehicle, registered a blood alcohol content of .110. The legal limit in Virginia, which has strict drunken driving laws, is .08.

Damn. You beat me to it :)
A device that reads .11 is precise to the hundredths place. A device that reads .110 is precise to the thousandths place. So a device that reads .110 is, in theory, a better device than one that reads just .11.
I know he is a conservative, but I have never heard of one thing with which he has been associated. Now I have: DUI. This may mean that ID will punish innocent Repubicans and turn that seat Democrat. For years, Frank Church was their senator. And ID is surrounded by Democrat senators, excpet for WY and UT.
You are so right; if there is anything that the American people know less about that politics, it’s decimals AND fractions! Most could never do eighth grade math; even Obama confesses to that failure.
Teddy’s free pass expired.I wonder what he’s doing now....
“So a device that reads .110 is, in theory, a better device than one that reads just .11.”
True, however,,,,,, .11 and .110 are the same. But, to the math challenged brain, “Why! .110 is much worse than .08 or .11. He was really, really loaded!” I’m talking about appearances, not the accuracy of different devices. At the water plant, our sensors read the line pressure to 6 decimal places! Way overkill!
If the day ever comes we ever comes we are so uppity as to throw a good man under the bus for this kind of action then the good Lord help us. Taking all things into consideration, I say let him who is without traffic tickets throw the first stone. There is a big difference between what Crapo did and getting stone drunk and stealing a truck, for instance.
President Ulysses (or as our southern FRiends might say Useless) S. Grant was known for being a somewhat heavy drinker and got in trouble during his presidency for speeding his buggy through DC. It takes more than goody two shoes to win wars, the Republicans should keep that in mind.
Thats 3 glasses of egg nog, 3 beers or 3 shots of liquor.
Hardly loaded, but indeed Driving under the influence.
I know people who would blow this when they get out of bed in the morning.
“I know he is a conservative, but I have never heard of one thing with which he has been associated. Now I have: DUI. This may mean that ID will punish innocent Repubicans and turn that seat Democrat.”
I doubt Idaho will elect a Democrat, but this guy may want to resign rather than running again. He has time to see how the wind is blowing, since he’s not up for re-election until 2016.
However (and I’m very surprised no one has commented on this), he’s a Mormon and had previously said he doesn’t drink. No one likes hypocrisy or liars, and 25% of Idahoans are Mormon...
I think a lot hinges on how he conducts himself between now and re-election.
(On a different note, I recall the days when .15 was the legal limit and he wouldn’t even have been considered drunk...)
You know how it is around here...:)
If this were you or I we would lose our job, probably our license, and fined thousands of dollars at the least.
I'd be willing to bet he gets a free pass. The elite ALWAYS protect their own.
Now I am glad I turned down that cabinet job for his wife. Looks like they could use the bail money.
Now you’ve done it! All this talk about hundredths place and thousandths place. Don’t confuse the math phobic folks any more!
If you want to have some fun sometime, ask some kid in the meat department for eight-tenths of a pound of hamburg. He won’t have a clue.
Which reminds me. Once I took a 16” x 25” air filter for my heating system into a store to get some new ones. I asked the young man where his air filters were located and he replied: “OMG, what kind of car do you drive?”
Merry Christmas!
OTOH, so much the better if they couldn’t bail out his sorry butt...
I hope you didn't tell the clerk the air filter was for your heating system, but instead told him a yarn that he'd be telling his friends for weeks.
For example, say: "Car? This air filter isn't for my car. I am a steamboat captain and this is for my steamboat."
Merry Christmas!
Right. But he is a VERY IMPORTANT PERSON. While the poor guy with the crappy job who stops by the local pub for a couple after work who deserves to get hammered, gets hammered.
So we have one of two things here. A rookie mistake by someone who doesn’t know you don’t take the wheel until you are too drunk to walk.
Or someone who, even though they “abstain”, finally got caught.
0.110 BAC => A six-pack, or six shots of hooch on-board.
Just stand there on one foot and lean back and touch both fingertips to the tip of your nose while singing an aria.
Sorry sir, but you were definitely off key...
You can fail the breath test for lots of reasons, poor pulmonary function being just one of them.
Unless he drank a lot just before leaving (it takes 45 minutes to absorb it fully) he might have been better off requesting a blood test. Breath testing devices can read high for physiological reasons and assume a standard relationship between blood alcohol levels and the amount of ethanol in alveolar air. That actual ratio can vary in humans by a factor of five or more. The blood test is generally more accurate.
That said, I have known people who were amazingly functional at BAC levels well above .15, not that I would necessarily want to share the road with them.
Me? I no longer drink, quit over 20 years ago.
