CNN's Piers Morgan is known for his invasive, aggressive style of journalism and reliably left-leaning sympathies. In the wake of the recent atrocity at Sandy Hook School, however, the former British tabloid editor has taken to playing fast-and-loose with the facts regarding America's gun laws . . . in a manner that's "not quite cricket."
During his 12/21 broadcast at the 20 minute mark, Morgan repeatedly featured YouTube-type video footage illustrating the firing of a fully-automatic AR15 type rifle. What's wrong with that? Well, the problem stems from the fact that both the video's caption and Morgan himself describe the fully-automatic weapon (effectively a machine-gun) as semi-automatic. Compounding his misrepresentation, Morgan noted that rifles with the same capabilities as the weapon portrayed are commonly available to American consumers.
As many veterans and firearms enthusiasts are aware, fully-automatic rifles fire continuously when their triggers are depressed and they are not commonly available to the American consumer. In contrast, legal semi-automatic weapons fire one time when their triggers are depressed; certain types of these weapons are permissible to own for many qualified Americans who are of age, who have no history of mental ailment, who have a clean criminal record, and are not otherwise prohibited by law from doing so.
Videos of fully-automatic "machine-guns" spitting out bullets, while impressive and menacing, are not videos of semi-automatic weapons firing. To use these terms or images to describe these weapons interchangeably is misrepresentation of the basest kind.
America is not a fully-automatic culture. Actual machine-guns and real "assault-rifles" (which -- by definition -- have not only semi-auto capability, but full-auto as well, and frequently 3-shot burst these days) are prohibited from ownership

Its often been observed that perception is more important than reality. The observation is often correct. It is never MORE CORRECT than for those weve come to call liberals. I prefer statist but liberal has morphed from its classic meaning to the other end of the spectrum so Ill stay with it.
Since these folks operate almost entirely on EMOTION and FEELING, REALITY seldom allows FACTS to intrude upon the delusional worldview they have constructed and the comfort that provides them. It is that illogical, irrational and delusional mindset that prompts many of them to continue to quest after a Utopian society. The thought that such a society can and will never be achieved in a fallen world populated with failed sinners never penetrates whatever remains of their cognitive consciousness. Its a DANGEROUS WORLD and, as the liberals continue to define deviancy down, it becomes more dangerous daily.
There is another, far more sinister, level of the liberal call for gun control.
It was Mencken who offered that The urge to save humanity is most often a false front for the URGE TO RULE. He clearly had been a student of the liberal politicians of his day. Were he alive today and able to observe the likes of Chuck Schumer, Diane Feinstein, Obama and the rest, hed almost certainly have used far stronger language to frame his sage observation.
To conclude, dozens of studies reveal the FACTS concerning gun control. Those FACTS are that where firearms are widely and READILY available to law-abiding citizens, CRIME GOES DOWN! The liberals who willfully ignore the FACTUAL EVIDENCE and continue to call for gun control (i.e. the DISARMING of DECENT CITIZENS, thereby denying them the ability to exercise their God-given right to self-defense) are those about whom Mencken wrote: Their goal is NOT about preserving life. It is about the hell-bent pursuit of the impossible to achieve Utopian world where all are equal but some (thatd be THEM) are MORE equal than others (thatd be US).
There are many PRO-RTKABA videos on You Tube that your often busy lives dont allow you to find on your own. Search there for Gun Control, watch them and, more importantly SHARE THEM with the folks in your orbit.
Were in a fight. And losing will ultimately cost us much more than our right to our guns.

Oh, I know it's meaningless, but it is still fun. And the "likes" are over 260 now - the problem is that there are multiple pages for deporting him or it would be even higher.
American Thinker got that wrong. Fully automatic weapons are not prohibited on a Federal level. State and local rules vary from no problem to absolute ban. If you find your local authorities don't pitch a fit and you with to own a full auto weapon all you need is a $200.00 certified check for the Federal excise tax and a properly filled out BATF Form 4. It takes patience as the ATF takes months to process and approve the Form 4 but once it passes you can pick up your new toy at the Class III FFL dealer from whom you placed your order those many months ago. In addition to full auto you may purchase short barreled rifles and shotguns, suppressors, dangerous devices (bore over .50 caliber), and any other weapon (a catch all category for cane guns, pipe guns, pen guns, &c.) a relative bargain as the excise tax is $5.00.
Note that the $200.00 and $5.00 taxes have remained the same since 1934 and are probably the only Federal taxes that have never been raised.

GtG
