Remarks from the NRA press conference on Sandy Hook school shooting, delivered on Dec. 21, 2012 (Transcript)
Here's a transcript of the remarks from the NRA press conference on the Sandy Hook school shooting. Statements are being updated as the remarks unfold.
DAVID KEENE, PRESIDENT, NATIONAL RIFLE ASSOCIATION: Good morning.
--snip--
LAPIERRE: Good morning.
The National Rifle Association -- 4 million mothers, fathers, sons and daughters -- join the nation in horror, outrage, grief, and earnest prayer for the families of Newtown, Connecticut, who have suffered such an incomprehensible loss as a result of this unspeakable crime.
Out of respect for the families and until the facts are known, the NRA has refrained from comment.
While some have tried to exploit tragedy for political gain, we have remained respectably silent. Now, we must speak for the safety of our nation's children.
LAPIERRE: Because for all the noise and anger directed at us over the past week, no one, nobody has addressed the most important, pressing and immediate question we face: How do we protect our children right now, starting today, in a way that we know works?
The only way to answer that question is to face the truth. Politicians pass laws for gun free school zones, they issue press releases bragging about them. They post signs advertising them. And, in doing so, they tell every insane killer in America that schools are the safest place to inflict maximum mayhem with minimum risk.
How have our nation's priorities gotten so far out of order. Think about it. We care about our money, so we protect our banks with armed guards. American airports, office buildings, power plants, court houses, even sports stadiums are all protected by armed security.
LAPIERRE: We care about our president, so we protect him with armed Secret Service agents. Members of Congress work in offices surrounded by Capitol Police...

Trying to reason with irrational people running on nothing but pure emotion which theenemy media works feverishly to hype up is a completely futile exercise. BUT, it must be done as Wayne has done it because there is still a base of We The People sovereigns ‘not yet’ willing to be enslaved and we must prepare to defend OUR CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS. The reality IS that we no longer live in a Constitutional Republic IN THE EYES OF THE OLIGARCHS VIOLATING THEIR OATH TO OUR CONSTITUTION! In so doing, they expose that they are the enemy within ...
WaPo headline from the future: NRA President Blames Shootings on Demons.
Most honest thoughtful speech I have heard in years...aside from Sarah that is
Was excellent, very impressed
I don’t see how the NRA can win the media war being waged against them and us. The entire media - including the “balanced Fox” are in the hands of Obama Goebbels.
At our school the principal and all the teachers are armed. We homeschool.
The students know how to shoot as well and will assist if need be.
All Congress critters who don’t uphold and defend the United States Constitution SHOULD BE IMPEACHED.
The answer is not hand-wringing, but riding out to meet the enemy on their own ground. Let them know that you now consider them a de facto branch of the governmental opposition and from now on, you will treat them as political operators, including picketing of media outlets.
Wow... great speech. Great message. On point.
It’s about time the NRA grew a spine. Glad to hear it.
What is the difference between public schools and other government run gun free zones? Unlike airports, courthouses, and other government buildings, schools don’t have security guards.
Liberals are wailing and angry about the recent massacre, but are stone cold and perfectly fine with one million aborted human lives every year.
Everything liberals disagree with, they want destroyed.
That’s why they can’t trust themselves with guns.
I've been saying this for a long time
The media has blood on its hands.
These shooters do it for the fame and attention the media gives them.
The media makes these mass shooters household names.
Almost all these mass shooters are loners who no one ever paid attention to. They want to matter , to do something big, to be someone important. The media makes them world famous . They want to be the next star.So they want to top the previous shooter . the media knows this so that's why they show the picture and life story of the mass shooter to everyone repeatedly.
These shooters want to see their names in headlines of the newspaper . They want to see their picture all over the TV etc.
Sure the media can cover it but they don't have to identify the perpetrator so as to not give others motive . they know this but do it so that they (democrats) can take away our right to defend ourselves , our guns so that then the government can crack down on us more. Democrats including the media want to dis-empower individuals and empower government .
the more people they kill then they know the more the media will cover them , so the media eggs on the next shooter and creates copy cats. the media eggs on the next shooter to top the previous shooter.
the media(democrats) are pure evil statists/socialists.
a mass shooter shouldn't be given the recognition , fame, notoriety it seeks . Nor should the media be given what they want : call for gun control.
Then they use the blood of those they killed to further enslave all of us. We need to put the blame on the media( democrats) and call them out .
I like most of what Wayne said but he went on too long, tech quality was absurdly poor, and a couple of nutball protestors were allowed to unfurl their stupid signs right in front of his face. And that’s the clip you’ll see on the MSM.
“[Assault weapons’] menacing looks, coupled with the public’s confusion over fully-automatic machine guns versus semi- automatic assault weapons —anything that looks like a machine gun is assumed to be a machine gun— can only increase the chance of public support for restrictions on these weapons.” Josh Sugarmann, executive director of New Right Watch, spokesman for the National Coalition to Ban Handguns, “Assault Weapons and Accessories in America,” policy report of New Right Watch and the Education Fund to End Handgun Violence, September 1988
“Self-interest has no place in society”
-Sandy Cuney, Handgun Control Incorporated, 5/6/94
“Our main agenda is to have all guns banned. We must use whatever means possible. It does not matter if you have to distort facts or even lie.”
-Sarah Brady, Handgun Control, Inc., The National Educator, January, 1994
“If I could have gotten 51 votes in the Senate of the United States for an out right ban, picking up every one of them... ‘Mr. and Mrs. America, turn ‘em all in,’ I would have done it. I could not do that. The votes weren’t here.”-Dianne Feinstein, Senator, CBS-TV’s “60 Minutes,” February 5, 1995
“In recent years it has been suggested that the Second Amendment protects the “collective” right of states to maintain militias, while it does not protect the right of “the people” to keep and bear arms. If anyone entertained this notion in the period during which the Constitution and Bill of Rights were debated and ratified, it remains one of the most closely guarded secrets of the eighteenth century, for no known writing surviving from the period between 1787 and 1791 states such a thesis. The phrase “the people” meant the same thing in the Second Amendment as it did in the First, Fourth, Ninth and Tenth Amendments -that is, each and every free person.”-Stephen Halbrook, Ph.D., That Every Man Be Armed: The Evolution of a Constitutional Right, 1994, at 83

Little suggestion here. Don’t support the anti-Second-Amendment lefties by using the word, “shooter.” Say “murderer,” instead. For example, “mass murderer.” Resist the linguistic activism of the left, or we’ll be defeated (as was marriage and traditional family structure, with much other linguistic activism). The misapplication of the word, shooter, was devised to equate all who fire firearms (”shooters”) with murderers.
Wise-up. We’ve already allowed over 30 years of linguistic activism to destroy our society and economy. University English departments are very much in league against conservatism along with other departments, such as psychology, sociology, women’s studies, various fine arts, commercial graphics, communications, education and more. Nursing departments have been infected for decades. English graduates also write and revise entries for the dictionaries, by the way.
ABC-NBC-CBS-Cable-Satellite Newtworks-—all of them are part of the MSM, Hollywood gun-grabbing pro-choice-American hating left.
Defund them and you partially defund democrats.
Pull the plug-—stop watching their network TV shows, stop watching their crap movies and take your kids out of public school if at all possible.
The ruling class and the dregs of hollywood have the right to defend their lives—but not the law-abiding peons.
I was with him 100% until he started blaming them eeeevil video games. Are there studies showing gamers are more likely than non-gamers to be murderers? That a significant number of convicted murderers are gamers?
Just more lame scapegoating, more “killers are victims of their culture” mentality. Cultures have been “saturated in violence” at least since the invention of the cave painting. I believe we have an innate attraction to violence that served us when we needed to hunt animals and kill human enemies to survive. Now that most of us don’t have a practical need for these instincts, I think it’s only healthy to use fictional/simulated violence—or actual hunting, for that matter—as an outlet.
