(CNN) Sen. Joe Manchin, a conservative Democrat from West Virginia and "proud gun owner," said Monday he believes last week's Connecticut elementary school shooting should be the tipping point in the debate over limiting gun rights.
"I just came with my family from deer hunting. I've never had more than three shells in a clip. Sometimes you don't get more than one shot anyway at a deer," Manchin said on MSNBC's "Morning Joe." "It's common sense. It's time to move beyond rhetoric. We need to sit down and have a common sense discussion and move in a reasonable way."

His tone sounds markedly different from one of his television ads as a Senate nominee in 2010, when he used a rifle to put a bullet through the Cap and Trade bill. He was serving as the state's governor at the time.
The senator was re-elected this year and doesn't face another election until 2016, giving him ample room to take political stances unpopular with his base.
Manchin pointed to Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California, who announced Sunday she will re-introduce an assault weapons ban when Congress reconvenes in January.

The 11th amendment should be: never endorse a democrate and be very cautious about Republicans who are cheap hawks at best, surrenderists generaly and frequently RINOs who are only good if they are leftistoid antisemitic and racist.
This West Virginian is disgusted ... and not surprised ... and inclined to say: “See? I told you so!” to the polidiots at the NRA.
“Manchin on gun control: ‘We need action’”
What kind of action ?
Manual?
Single-shot?
Dropping block?
Tilting block?
Falling block?
Rolling block?
Break-action?
Hinged block
Bolt action?
Repeater?
Revolver?
Lever-action?
Pump-action?
Automatic action?
Semi-automatic?
Blowback?
Blow-forward?
Recoil?
I understand you feelings.

Manchin even went so far as to dramatically hand-load only one bullet into the rifle before firing it!
Joe Manchin, another commie RAT who pretended to be conservative to get elected.
Thanks for your input Joe, but the 2nd Amendment ain’t about hunting.
“It’s common sense. It’s time to move beyond rhetoric. We need to sit down and have a common sense discussion and move in a reasonable way.”
How is it possible to have common sense discussion with an ass h0le? First thing I think of is that the 2nd is not about hunting deer.
Untill we can get that idea out there will be no “common sence”
Obama: “Hey Joe. Nice job fooling those hicks that you’re a conservative guy who’s anti-Obamacare and pro-2nd Amendment. Keep up the good work.
Manchin: Thanks Prez. Like you, I also have a “gift”.
Manchin’s ACU rating was a big fat 15 in 2011. There are liberals in the Dem Party who had a higher ACU rating than Manchin. Maybe this joker was somewhat conservative as governor but definitely not as a Senator.
Still feelin’ good about electing this schmo, West Virginia?
As another West Virginian, I consider the NRA as a harmful political force precisely because of their endorsements of anti-gun Democrats against pro-gun Republicans, which they do because the NRA wants to be on the good side of the powerful AS IF THAT WILL EVER HELP. That’s why I will never join the NRA under current leadership. I have seen too many good pro-Constitution candidates lose to anti-gun Democrats who were stupidly endorsed by the NRA.
Still feelin' good about ENDORSING this shmo, Chris Cox and NRA/ILA?
Do something significant and meaningful with the national debt and deficit spending, Senator Foghorn.
a conservative Democrat
“Never heard that term before................is that even possible?”
An extinct species... Killed off by the progressives in the Democrat party.
Oh look it’s another NRA “A” rated “moderate” rat (D rated by the GOA) coming out for gun grabbing. Film at 11. What a joke the NRA is.
Any regrets yet, moron ticket splitters in WV? Elect Romney and this Obama nuthugger by mirror image landslides.
Capito should have run against HIM.
Recall elections for Senators? What is the law?
