How 'genius' honor student Adam Lanza became masked killer
Daily Mail ^ | 12/15/12

Posted on 12/15/2012 8:45:53 AM PST by BunnySlippers

Ms Conte called the ordeal 'sad' for Lanza and his family, and suggested that the violence is a portion of a much larger situation.

'Guns are easy to point to, but it's really a mental health issue.'

Girls, unfortunately, are catching up fast.

Fair enough, but about what percentage of the total count are they? And how is pointing that girls are "catching up" going to help us address and come up with answers for what's happening to our boys?

My comments aren't about saying "all men are bad". They are about "Why are so many males doing this, and what can we do to stop it?"

I did the pop ups but the gooks didn’t pop up and the doctrine was lay down a base of fire and then maneuver.

One of the problems was the Troops tended to shoot over a gook in a spider hole when moving which led to spray and pray. Aim low and walk your rounds in.

I’m willing to consent to fines and imprisonment for parents [and others] who do not lock their guns

If all the law abiding citizens lock up their guns, how would they ever protect themselves when very suddenly confronted with very bad people with bad intentions?

How does that work?

Are random acts of crazy mass murders of children a modern phenomenon...or have they always happened?

Does partial birth abortion count?

I said if they had to ban something, video games that numb players to the horror of gun violence would be a good place to start, rather than the guns that people use to defend themselves from these desensitized zombies that the games help to create. I am generally in agreement about government bans, but in this case, where there is no redeeming social benefit, it may be aN effective way to curb the crazies.

Why stop here? Why not ban ALL activities with "No Redeeming Social Benefit"?

All of my weapons are loaded and unlocked. I’ll not ever do as you say. An unloaded weapon is a club.

Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

****************************************************

That’s exactly the way my Daddy did. Unlocked, loaded, and with 1 in the chamber ready to go. He kept them way up high were litlle folks couldn’t get to them, and we knew better than to try.

He was 6ft 3” tall, and had no problem getting to them fast.

A previous post informs that our military uses video games to help people get over their innate hesitation to take aim at another human being. If video games are capable of overcoming conscience then perhaps they are far more dangerous weapons than guns.

I think we are going to have to hold people accountable if they don’t secure their guns from being stolen and used for these purposes.
Let’s keep guns out of the hands of crazies.

Moronic knee-jerk response. Now you want to punish those who do no wrong.

I know! Using your "logic"...Let's punish the school for allowing him to get inside! Let's punish the police for not getting there sooner! Let's punish the negligent parents of the children for letting their children go to a school with insufficient security! Let's punish ANYONE, because we feel bad for a week for some kids! That's what Justice is all about!!!

*sheesh*

We cannot ban everything that may be a danger. Millions of people play these video games every day without ever commiting murder. Do you honestly think banning violent video games will stop mass killings?

The other practical problem with some law about locking up arms is who patrols that law in the privacy of our homes? That would also be unconstitutional. It is a an unworkable tenant...just like so many other ridiculous laws.

There have been some very well reasoned thoughts on this thread. I think where Bunny and I might have some common thoughts is on how do we frame our side of the debate with emotional liberals who we know are going to use this tragedy to take more of our rights away. The mental health stuff backs them into a corner every time. Remember..they are for ‘neurodiversity’....lol...and letting murderers out of jail....and banning the death penalty. They are the ones largely responsible for emptying out the asylums for the criminally insane.

I think another poster had it right in saying that we are being too quick to accept the premise...’that something has to be done’. The truth may just be very simple....life has risks..there are crazy people and we have rights that cannot be taken from us.

As awful as this situation is....we will never stop evil. Think of the crazy zombie man in Florida....he started chewing a man to death and killing him with his bare hands.granted he would not have been able to do that on a mass scale..but you get the point. A evil person with intent to do harm..can do it with common household products...he/she doesn’t need a gun.

Or we could take the stand of arming all of our schools and turning them into fortresses. Not sure that is feasible either though. What happens when the shooter is the principal or some nut job teacher with access already or the person with the ‘sanctioned’ gun, who we hired to protect our kids?

I just don’t see how we can protect ourselves and our children from evil all the time. Might be better to train them more steadfastly in the good and the Godly.

My home was robbed a few says ago and I cannot find one gun in a separate bedroom. I’m planning on buying another ... and may be surprised.

oops...just remember that YOU are responsible for all the future carnage of that unsecured gun...according to your own emotional argument...

I’m willing to give concessions to try to keep crazy people from getting them and/or securing your guns so crazies can’t get them.

You (and I mean this literally: you, personally) are the reason liberals win. Rather than refuse to give them the apple, you give the left little bites. Either way, when they are done, the apple is gone.

If you are willing to compromise your "principles," then you have none. The person responsible for this wouldn't have been stopped by locks or gun-safes. He would have found a way. But the young woman who is raped and murdered because she locks her guns up (like you want... because she wants to be a "good" person) will just be dead...

I think it has a better chance of effecting the outcome than banning guns does.

It sounds to me that the biggest problem here was that this kid's mental illness was never adequately addressed. That's been an issue for many years in this country, when decisions were made to release the mentally ill from hospitals to lower costs, and to allow the mentally ill to be treated by drugs and talk therapy rather than institutionalizing those who in the past would have been considered dangerous to themselves and others.

Unfortunately, many of today's society would rather take away the guns than hospitalize the seriously mentally ill.

Historically, women tend to use other methods to kill. Poison seems to be popular.

But you are right, as our culture has changed, women seem to be willing to use more violent tools to murder.

The biggest problem here is that schools are defenseless.

This is going to happen again.

Not only are we inviting it, we are enabling it.

I’ll put forth this thought. Maybe if we can’t trust a person with guns in society due to mental illness, maybe that person shouldn’t be out in society at all. If a person is such a danger to himself and others, maybe we need to institutionalize that person... for his safety and the safety of others.

Agreed.

The public school system should be dismantled. As long as the government is involved in education, and the system is unionized, it is unlikely that schools will not be subject to violence. Try suggesting that teachers arm themselves. I can only imagine the response.
