Ms Conte called the ordeal 'sad' for Lanza and his family, and suggested that the violence is a portion of a much larger situation.
'Guns are easy to point to, but it's really a mental health issue.'

Correlation does not equal causation.
Governments banning things, any things, always leads to bad results.
It's illegal to kill children. He did it anyway. He's dead.
Making more laws is feeding into the socialist, statist morass that will eventually drown you.

Serious question. Did Obamugabe win a hunting state?
IOW, if someone is *too dangerous* to be in proximity of a firearm, or a gallon of gas or etc, then they shouldnt be sharing the sidewalk with me or my kids...
toddlers with guns dont go on murderous rampages, and no amount of emoting will end tragic/negligent deaths...
I can’t go near this. They may lock me up!
Possibly. You brought it up.
The Republicans won 24 states. I would suggest that more hunting states exist in the Republican camp, than do the Democrat camp. Once again though, any Democrat representing a hunting state is sticking his neck out here. And I think that gives us the edge.
As others have said, we should not be complacent. We need to push back hard here.

I am a mother. I own guns.
If I had a kid who was psychotic I WOULD DEFINITELY consider keeping my guns from my crazy kid. She did not.
It would have saved her life and that of 20 others. So sad.
Prediction is a lot easier then prevention. As regards the "outbreak" of school shootings several common factors link the episodes.
The perpetrators are seen as loners who "don't fit in". They often adopt a "Goth" style of dress. They are the subject of ridicule from the "social" and "jock" cliques and tend to associate only with other "outcasts". They are secretive and spend an inordinate amount of time playing video games. They are often on the high end of the bell curve but avoid displaying their high intelligence. Most importantly, they are often receiving prescription psychoactive medication(s).
I believe the two most important characteristics are the video games which create a false reality and the psychoactive drugs which have serious side effects (deep depression, suicide, extreme anger). The increase in the number and severity of school shooting incidents correlates with the increasingly common use of powerful mood altering drugs. Not every child exposed to these drugs displays adverse symptoms and in many cases the symptoms only become apparent when the drugs are abruptly stopped and the child is left to cope with withdrawal cold turkey.
This needs further study before we allow politicians to stampede us into blaming inanimate objects for committing mass murder. Dumbing down our children is bad enough, now the new normal is doping them up.

“BTW, girls play many of these games and watch many of these movies too.”
Girls, unfortunately, are catching up fast. What about that crazed professor in Alabama? Probably murdered her brother in MA as well. Also, many incidents of truly shocking violence committed by adolescent girls (single perp, single victim)
Was he psychotic? I haven’t heard that.

all this emoting by our friend has me thinkin...did this evil nutjob shoot his mommy, or have they specified how she died ???
Sure, if they want to lose. I’m a gamer - does that mean I’m going around shooting up people?
If he wasn’t psychotic, was he crazy or dangerous? Which one of those would cause you to be more dead?
Shades of so called silly “hate crimes”.
No, silly.
Yes, don’t you read?
As far as I know he had no history of being dangerous. No record. The only thing I’ve read is that his brother said he was autistic.
Well, okay. Let’s go absurdist. Everyone, no matter how insane should have a gun.
Now we agree.
Guys/gals, this was an interesting thread until you got into this petty flamewar. Please knock it off.
You just said, ‘blame gamers’. That’s dumb. Blame mental illness, and I’m not even sure of that either - this was planned and premediated. There might be nothing wrong with the shooter other than being a psychopath.
