A veteran Democratic lawmaker believes the nation will go along with stronger gun control laws if President Obama exploits the Newtown, Conn., tragedy and nudges Congress to action.
Rep. Jerrold Nadler, who represents portions of New York City, said he was encouraged by Mr. Obamas statement on Friday afternoon that the mass shooting, which claimed the lives of 20 young children, requires meaningful action by Congress, but hopes those words turn into concrete legislation.
These incidents, these horrible, horrible incidents are happening more and more frequently. And they will continue to happen more and more frequently until someone with the bully pulpit, and that means the president, takes leadership and pushes Congress, Mr. Nadler said during an appearance on MSNBCs The Ed Show with Ed Schultz.
Mr. Nadler was asked whether the Newtown tragedy could be the turning point in many Democrats longstanding struggle to enact stronger gun laws.
I think we will be there if the president exploits it, and otherwise well go on to the next incident, Mr. Nadler said.

Try it!...You damn giant a-hole!
.....Shameless,soul-less,opportunistic blood suckers!
Gun control has zero to do with safety. It has to do with power of the leaders over the people. Look at the power of political leadership where there is strict gun control, both in the cities you named and in other countries.
Strict gun control most certainly does work, and it has nothing to do with preventing crime.
mini-rant?
Certainly warranted.
If there was ever an industry that deserved extinction, it is the Mass Media in the U.S. A collection of fool, useful idiots and outright Traitors. There was a time when Treason was a serious crime, is that over? If so, the Republic is dead.
Hey Nadler! Could we at least tone it down until they clean up the blood? Now is not the time for your Nazi fascist kneejerk reaction. Moron!
This kind of thing should never happen. But, someone has pointed out that gun free zones mean that only bad guys have the guns.
If teachers and principals were armed this kind of thing wouldn't expand to the awful magnitude that it does.
And, if we didn't condense everything into super-sized schools the opportunity wouldn't exist the way it does.
I have heard very cogent arguments for the one-room school house that goes up to eighth grade. After that perhaps trade schools and college prep academies.
In the final analysis however, more gun control means more opportunity for the bad guys.
There is NO discipline, no moral compass, and in most cases, lack of a Traditional Family, with fathers in the home as head-of-household.
You reap what you sow.....
Yep...Nadler has exploited a few too many cheeseburgers...lol
These freaks...these frickin GHOULS...couldnt even wait to exploit this...I lack the words to properly voice my disgust...
The American Revolution began when the British tried to disarm the colonists.
Wonder if we still have that kind of grit today.
There are many more of us than they realize.
I thought Nadler retired? No such luck? Not that you’d end up with anyone much different given the district.
The real test will be how we respond to legislation that infringes on our inalienable rights, takes our goods, and makes us criminals overnight.
I wonder if Obama sheds tears over children killed as collateral damage from drone attacks. It couldn’t possibly be phoney and part of a move to gun control, could it?
Hey Nadler, here’s the deal, I have a proposition for you..I’ll give you twenty whole dollars if you can get a gang banger in Chicago to give up his piece..just go ask him “Pretty please Mr. Gang banger, please give up your gun” and see what he says..if you make it out without your body being riddled with bullets I’ll buy you a steak
It’s never quantity.
It’s always quality.
“3600 gun laws in America,”
More like 20,000 plus.
First person shooters.. thank you x-box...
