The problem is birth control drugs are big medicine, with lots of possible side effect and interactions. They’re actually exactly the kind of drug that should be prescription only. Yeah it would end a political football, but at a huge human cost.
But every woman who asks gets the prescription, it has nothing to do with being “diagnosed”, and once they have it, they get refills for the rest of their lives.
So really, the doctor visit is just government imposing an extra cost.
Of course, nothing stops a woman from seeing a doctor before starting birth control. This is about free choice.
Frankly, I think a LOT of prescription drugs should be OTC instead.
Concur. My daughter is getting married in a few months and she is having a hard time finding the right dosage. The first dosage she was proscribed turned her into a banshee. She has gone through about three different prescriptions and all of them turn her into a very unpleasant person. Birth control pills are not one size fits all. Birth control pills are very powerful and need to be tailored to the person.
