I don’t see anything wrong with posting this story. I’m very interested in the Sara Palin and her family.

I’m very sorry to hear this news, but I’d still rather know about it than not.

If it is true the couple filed for joint divorce, or either filed for divorce, it is a matter of public record in the courts. No one’s birth certificate or college or military or SS records are matters of public record unless brought up i a suit in which case they would still be sealed.

Love is a choice.

There are various emotions which are also called “love”, but these are often variable and sometimes fleeting.

Love is an act of the will, a commitment. Once it is made, the various feelings labeled “love” usually make their appearance. This time they are often mostly stable and permanent.

Commitment is far more important than “compatibility”, finances, physical appearances or even “hot sex”. Again, once there is commitment, these other things usually follow.

There’s a recent study that notes the biggest contribution to the “acheivement gap” between whites and minorities in school is due to the single-parent households. Kids do much better with both parents.

But I have trouble finding people much younger than me who believe that “making a relationship work” is actually something you could do. It’s all about how they feel. If they don’t think they are getting the most out of a marriage, they will happily move on. I call it selfish.

But that’s just the way it is — people think their own happiness is the most important thing in the world, and that’s what movies and TV teach us, that we should all find what is best for us, and if that is your motivation, it is pure, and therefore unquestionable.

Sadly, conservatives, and deeply religious families, are not immune. This is two for the Palins. I’ve got elders in my church with kids who get their girlfriends pregnant, and girls who get pregnant, and are now single fathers or single mothers.

It’s a shame.

I would rather read some of this stuff on FR, where people have a tendency to be more respectful than in other forums. There is a place for this stuff. One way or another it will be out in the rest of the media. We might not like what is out there, but it is important to be informed about some of these things.

Libs will be all over this, or other things like this, and beating it like a drum. How do you respond to them knowledgeably? (Not that it really matters to a lib)

Yeah; and a friend named her daughter JAZZ when they lived in New Orleans years ago. I guess names are in the ears of the hearers as to their preferences.

True. And this is why shotgun weddings usually are more unstable.

Those entering into shotgun marriages never had the kinds of commitments to real love inspired by an act of the will; the early pregnancy indicates a devotion to emotion rather than will.

Look at the exponential increase in the divorce rate after "no-fault" became the national norm in the late-60s / early-70s. Believe only NY still requires "show cause," although it's watered down.

Society has a big interest in limiting divorce, because it bears the massive costs of unmarried women and their children living in or near poverty. States will wise up one day and reinstate stringent cause factors before allowing marriages to be dissolved.

ending their marriage WAY to soon..after only 1 1/2 years they barely know each other. Why do people give up so easily??? They were madly in lve, dated, married, had a baby, and now they are giving it all up...I absolutely can’t understand that. (we have 51 years under our belt)

If those are “some of the silliest names for kids” you’ve seen’ you need to get out more.

All of those names are English names of long standing — in addition to the meanings specific to Alaska and the Palins (as mentioned by dainbramaged).

Our daughter named her first son Auggie....

Our oldest son “Chris” married a gal “Christy”... they named their first born “Christian”... no confusion there...

Mrs p6 and I took some heat for naming our second son “Andrew James”....I have no idea why people thought that was odd.

...and you’d have to be a resident of Alaska and living the lifestyle her family does to fully understand why.

I give a rat's a$$ who is getting divorced, who is married, who is shacked up and who is having who's baby..
Track Palin and his wife are private citizens. they are not involved in politics, nor are they responsible for the condition this country is in...
Their private lives should be THEIR BUSINESS AND THEIR FAMILIES ONLY and not the MSM that fails the American public on a daily basis...

IT IS TIME TO LEAVE THE PALIN FAMILY ALONE...THIS COUNTRY HAS SERIOUS PROBLEMS AND IT IS NOT THE PALINS FAULT...SO WHY DOES IT BELONG HERE???

Track is an Army Reservist who spent a year deployed in Iraq with a Ft. Wainwright Stryker Brigade.

Well, I’m sure that had nothing to do with it. /S

Sorry to hear this, they seemed like a nice couple.

That's a very solid, worthwhile response. You're right, it's better to come to terms with a situation such as this among good-hearted, like-minded people here on FR than elsewhere. Thanks for that thoughtful perspective.
