LONDON Its the million-dollar question, and not only here in the U.K. Jacintha Saldana one of the nurses taken in by the prank phone call to the hospital where Catherine, duchess of Cambridge, was being treated for acute morning sickness killed herself early Friday. And we are all left scratching our heads. Why did she do it?
Of course, the first thing we all wonder is about her mental stability. Wed all desperately like to believe that this hard-working mother of two, who commuted 140 miles to her day job, often working double shifts so that she could spend more time with her family must have some deep, dark secret to hide. Because then the rest of us could at least explain away an event that is, as the chairman of King Edward VII Hospital put it, tragic beyond words.
But from what we know, there is no sign that Saldana was suicidal, unstable or psychologically frail before she took her own life this week. Shy and nervous? Yes. But so depressed she was suicidal? Doesnt sound right, at least according to those who knew Saldana, who was described at work as an excellent nurse, well-respected and popular with all of her colleagues.
Maybe she faced some kind of severe sanction from the hospital where she worked? Maybe the hospital blamed her for falling for a hoax in which two Australian DJs masquerading as Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles managed to fool the diligent but non-native English speaker, who subsequently passed the phone call on to the Duchesss private nurse, who then revealed details about the duchesss condition?

He probably set the stage for many of the prank shows nowadays.
Why ever did you post a reasonable and tenderly compassionate explanation here? /sarc
The online Brit newspaper dailymail.com reported that William and Kate had not complained, and that they were heartsick over the unforeseen outcome of this woman's distress.
I don’t think Alan Funt ever did anything as mean and disgraceful as that
Where did you read that? I read the DailyMail every day, and DM said William and Kate were not the source of complaints, and were greatly saddened by the woman's death. Citation?
William and Kate 'deeply saddened' by death and said they did not complain
Even if William had complained, which he denied, one couldn't blame him for being vigilant about his ill wife and threats from the highly intrusive media, given what happened to his mother. The UK and Murdoch pretty much invented the mainstreaming of tabloid journalism.
RU SRS?
who told you about that one because I never get informed of such videos and I am glad I am not.... near zero views and comments.
see post 65
IOW I am out of the loop as far as such videos while you are in the loop
I don’t give two rats a$$e$$....with sugar on top.
Alan Funt was one of the worst people in show biz. He was hated by his employees.
What’s so bad about calling up a hospital and imitating the Queen? Sheesh.
Outlaw them? No. But I have to admit that I agree with Heinlein on this matter.
"A 'practical joker' deserves applause for his wit according to its quality. Bastinado is about right. For exceptional wit one might grant keelhauling. But staking him out on an anthill should be reserved for the very wittiest."
Practical jokers should not be received in polite society.
Thank you, miss marmelstein. I’m not always right.. I guess sometimes the blind pig does find an acorn. LOL!
Oh, you always make sense. Don’t sell yourself short!
“.. a reasonable and tenderly compassionate explanation here?”
Thank you, darling. I try. I think that event in the grocery store really hit home with me. You never know what someone is dealing with in their own lives. Maybe some people are just holding on by their nails and all it takes is one more little push. Hugs, Mom
I don’t really understand your point. Anyone is entitled to privacy when they go into a hospital for a checkup. That goes for anyone, not just a princess.
These guys broke the privacy laws, under false pretences.
I guess they’ll get away with it, because the Royal Family doesn’t want to make trouble with the media. They’re DJs, so they can do whatever they like. But I imagine it’s illegal in England as well as the U.S. to invade someone’s privacy in a hospital.
Sounds to me like she lived a pretty tough existence trying to raise children by herself, with an exceedingly long comute and working double shifts.
The professional “stiff upper lip” she gave to the people who knew her, may have given in to the weight of such a hard and stressful life.
It was a mean trick to pull on her in the name of entertainment. Ridiculing, dishonest, smash mouth comics don’t make me laugh. Our entertainment culture is mostly devoid of talent and inspiration. Today’s commedians are the garbage truck drivers of the post American culture of leftist race hate, immorality and death.
Yes, I’ve thought that too. I can see it being a “last straw” and your story gives a good example of that kind of thing.
