I recently saw a question from BigLook in regard to cracked and busted windows in vehicles. In and around Fairbanks, they dont salt the roads. They lay down gravel and coal ash. So, my tires pick up the gravel in the treads. The small rocks leave the tread when I drive at speed.

We are very careful not to follow others to close when accelerating. The vehicles in front will chuck rocks out.

So far this winter I have two chips. With temps into -40 they have not yet cracked. But, this happens often.
